I dont think it is fully accurate to say we have the SAME mouths, a life of speaking a certain language or type of language will change the muscles in your face, and even the bone structure, to match the sounds. In short I think I could argue that an American mouth may be incapable of producing the true Czech sound, we may just have to be content with close, thanks for the tips

So basically the Czec "Ř" is the same in southslavic (Serbian/ Cro/ BiH) language the letter "Ž"?

OMG, i was struggling to mix the R and J sounds for Ř, but your tip for bringing the teeth closer makes it effortless! With that mouth position, I can just go for a regular R and it automatically comes out as Ř. Awesome!!

For about 50 yrs I have been trying to trill my r's first in spanish then in czech and everyone would put their fingers in my mouth including strangers in Czechia. I now have denture implants and after a few minutes I think I am getting it but now I have a sore throat from trying…but I think I maybe got it. Im only 2 minutes in but we will see.

Im Czech and i was able to pronounce R since my 2 years Ř in 3 years and I was an attraction for all the adults who were amused by the way the little boy pronounced those difficult letters and words in a textbook way. Now im watching this video with that very adorable instructor lady and ist just fun to me trying it acording her instructions….
Anyway if any foreigner manage to pronounce it correctly he instatly get 100 respect points from any Czech 🙂 I hope this is enough motivation.
One advice or remark… R sounds very hard and tough to us… so if some Czech is telling you something with lot of Rs he/she would be probably revile or upset to you 🙂 R has its power, penetration and accent… most of Czech swear-word contains R … with strong accent on that R when pronounced.) :)))))

Nie kumam czemu dzieci w Czechach mają problem z tym dźwiękiem. To jest jak w polskich wyrazach rżeć, rżąka, rżnąć, itp. Większy problem stanowi różnica między dźwiękiem G i H
From a Serbian speaker : ř = Rž or Rš or even straight up Ž as in jalousie in French (Žaluzi)

Practicing pronunciation is like practicing an instrument for music. There is one basic rule (imo):
Your aim should be to feel as relaxed as possible while producing the sound. It should work perfectly when talking slowly, then you can speed up. If you don't master it, try to be conscious about what's happening. And if you notice, that you make strange movements that have nothing to do with producing the sound (like looking to the ceiling, frowning your forehead,…) consciously let go of them and try to relax.

I know I sound like an idiot, but the Czech president needs to delete the Czech R with hook, because it's as if the R with hook is doing its absolute best to convince literally everyone, even the natives, not to learn Czech.

I'm from Sweden and studied czech 10 years ago on my erasmus in Prague. In swedish we use the regular rolling R alot, especially in my accent from Gothenburg. It was a big step for kids when they learned to say R. Kids were teased for not being able to say R. So apparently thats was not a a problem for me when studying czech. Many people in my czech class thought Ř was hard, but i just saw it like saying Š and R at the same time
We also had soft R in Latvian (Ŗ). Stopped using the 30s. One less letter in alphabet 👍 Good!
OMG I'm so happy a Slovak friend introduced me to your channel after I have been complaining to him how much difficulties I experience as a Flemish speaker with learning Chech on the Duolingo app and how much I am in need of a decent grammar book / lessons etc. This will definitely help and I,m looking forward to go through all the content.
I can't believe that Polish and Czech were once the same language, just different dialects. I'm Polish, living in Slovakia, I can hardly understand Czech, while Czechs And Slovaks can have a normal understandable conversation for both. And I'm like "čože?" 😂
