Instrument X: Launch Video

We are proud to announce Instrument X, a revolutionary new virtual instrument platform that completes the Dreamtonics trilogy alongside Synthesizer V and Vocoflex. Replacing rigid sample libraries with cutting-edge neural acoustics modeling, Instrument X translates notation directly into natural acoustic radiation with human-level expression and lightweight, local processing speeds.

Key features include the Unified Articulation Editor, Predictive Dynamics Lanes (Manually Adjustable), AI Performance Retakes, Advanced Polyphony with Track Splitting capability, Microphone Mixer Panel made using Neural Acoustic Modeling, and 5 Performance Direction presets (Adagio, Allegro, con Fuoco, Pop, Ballad). The launch lineup features 15 individual instrument expansions across Orchestral Strings, Woodwinds, and Brass and Jazz Saxophone collections.

Instrument X and its expansion collections are available from August 26th —you can purchase expansions, pick-and-mix custom packs, or complete your setup with cross-product bundles on the Dreamtonics Store:

  1. $650?? For a woefully incomplete orchestral library that you can't play in real time and that you have to wait for tracks to render? Fail. You can buy Spitfire Symphony Orchestra for less than that. I'm not sure who would be delusional enough to think anyone would pay that much money for the incomplete "Complete Collection".

  2. The feature set looks promising. A score view would be nice (if I didn't just miss it), and well, the instruments need work. They sound kind of flat and dead, like mid 00's sound modules. The sample song reminds me of Dragon Quest in a way.

  3. The instrument has a decent level of realism, but I can't seem to use the pitch bend or mod wheel for articulation. Is there a workaround for this? Also, when I play a MIDI melody, it lacks the true feel and character of the actual instrument. Is there a specific setting or alternative option to make it sound more authentic?

  4. I'm sure this will be updated later, but currently, having only alto and tenor saxophones isn't enough for a true big band sound; baritone and soprano are also needed. This demo highlights that cloned instruments don't quite replicate a fully recorded large ensemble, though their timbre is excellent for small groups. The best solution would be to record distinctly different players, or at least different takes from the same player, rather than resampling a single performance. While this cloning effect is fine for woodwinds since they naturally play in smaller sections, brass and strings require that variation to create a believable, rich effect. That being said, for smaller scale arrangements, it already sounds pretty amazing. 🤔

  5. 한번에 오케스트라 전체를 다 내지 말고, 솔로 악기만 하나씩 공개하면서 긴 프로젝트로 갔다면, 반응이 이 정도로 나쁘진 않았을텐데.

  6. With that sound palette, tonight, we’re all going to open Gigastudio, switch on the Yamaha QX7 sequencer, press play on the Linn drums, fire up the Ensoniq ASR-10 and party like it’s 1999!

  7. I think they should rather improve the expression and sound of their vocal libraries (It still sounds quite digital, piercing and often lifeless compared to the powerful performances of suno or ace studio vocals). Further we need less girly sweet K-Pop vocals and more warm powerful Pop vocals in the style of Dua Lipa, Alex Warren, George Michael etc.

  8. – makes one of the most revolutionary libraries
    – proceeds to make one of the most poorly mixed poor representations of said library
    – doesn't use any of the unique features
    – doesn't showcase anything new
    – uses the most generic possible chamber song to showcase said technology

what do they mean by this

i want to pick it up but also WHAT ARE THOSE PRICES COME ON

  9. I feel like there needs to be a plugin that combines the best of both worlds. Like it uses a comprehensive real sound library as the backing but its assisted by neural sound modeling to capture a lot more of the nuanced, minor changes and articulations of real performance. This is good but it doesnt feel nearly as raw, direct, or there as a real virtual instrument.

  10. Wow. I cannot believe how bad this sounds. It's like the old sample libraries from the early aughts or something. With all this cutting-edge technology under the hood, this is the best they can do? Do they even listen to examples from competitors' modern orchestral sample libraries at all (including SWAM)? Because those are the products this is competing against, despite the different philosophy, technology, and workflow.

  11. Fuck, I have 60 Spitfire libraries.😄
I really like the Synth V, but Instruments X doesn't measure up to the sound of traditional sample libraries. At least not yet.

  12. Sounds dated. And I wonder about CPU-load or render-time for all these parts. I'd say, if you already have libraries from some of the big-names, you don't need this one.

  13. Pretty cool but I don't really see the advantage over physically modeled instrument plugins. I mean I appreciate any plugins that reduce the astronomical hardware requirements that most orchestral libraries have but this seems to be geared towards the vocaloid/synthV crowd who favor quick ease of use versus meticulous hand-tuning of parameters
