I’m making a HUGE change to my 100-year-old house… and the renovation is suddenly getting very real!
In this episode of my 100-year-old house renovation, I’m finally starting to make plans for one of the biggest projects yet: my dream kitchen renovation. I’ve decided to move the kitchen into a completely different room, which means redesigning the space, comparing kitchen companies and figuring out exactly what my dream kitchen could look like.
I visit both Wren Kitchens and Magnet Kitchens to design my new kitchen, compare layouts and start making some very expensive decisions! Do I choose a traditional shaker kitchen that suits my Edwardian house, or do something much more modern?
I also have a builder visit the house to talk through the kitchen renovation, electrics, plumbing and some of the other work my 100-year-old house needs. There is A LOT more to this renovation than I realised…
Elsewhere in the house renovation, Dad and I are making progress on the DIY bookshelves in my office/library, I’m staining the shelves, attempting to get the house ready before California and apparently becoming the kind of person who gets extremely excited about a new vacuum cleaner.
I’m renovating this 100-year-old Edwardian house one project at a time and documenting the entire home renovation here on YouTube — from restoring its original period features to designing the kitchen, decorating every room and tackling plenty of DIY along the way.

Definitely need some modern look and really like the idea of white cabinets, and you could also have a Chrome and glass extractor fan. Don't have the cabinet above the cooker have the extractor fan
I love the kitchen design! It makes the house so much more functional. And the kitchen is the heart of the home as they say, so I love the placement.

Random advice you haven’t asked for – you mentioned black as an option- don’t do it 🙈 at least not a matt version. I have it ar home (because it looks great) – but it stains so easily, EVERY finger print is visible…anyway whatever you choose will look great

You may think you haven’t accomplished much but you’ve decided on the kitchen which is a big step forward. And what you may not get finished before the trip will be waiting for you upon your return. No need to rush to get things done before you leave.

So although love your blogs/vlogs …. bloody hell..most people can’t afford….WREN ..maybe you are earning too much money from YouTube….and also BTW you should not have AVA by your side in the car….dogs should be behind a cage type thing..in the back.if you get stopped by the police you will be prosecuted..just sayin !

Dont worry about colours going “out of fashion”. We’ve done our extension with Green, browns and gold tones… i absolutely love it! But when it goes “out of fashion”, I’ll change it. Thats the whole love of having your own home. Your place, your rules. “I want it, i got it” .
Could knock out both walls around the fireplace.
I could show you how I set up my apt using AI, its crazy how good it looks 😃
I'm all for neutral cabinets and countertops and then bringing in color through tile, accessories, etc. While tile is a bit of a pain to replace, in theory you could replace the tile if/when you grow tired of that color much easier than replacing countertops and cabinets. Accesories are an easy swab if you chang your mind on the color palette down the road.
It is odd in a big house they have a tiny kitchen your old kitchen is tiny I going a small house here in Canada it has a bigger Kitchen are you picking out your desk for your library office that room be nice to see your last kitchen in your last house you redon was really nice

did you account for the pretty large looking mantel piece of the fireplace in the room you want to turn into your kitchen? just so that the island actually has enough room. love the plan though
Joel, you are a very successful YouTuber. Couldn't you parlay that into a deal with the kitchen people or any room? You give them plugs and show them doing the install, and I bet they offer you a sweet deal or a free one!
What about a japenese kitchen
If you can, have the cabinets go all the way up the wall.
Love all the house vlogs!! Joel well done. I would highly recommend purchasing an air purifier they're much better than any type of plugin or anything that you would actually use in order to make the air smell better. They're also really good if you happen to have any type of animals in the house. Purchasing one of these will also help with allergies. Would you turn the temporary kitchen into some sort of dog wash area?

House is going to look amazing! I redid my 130 year old farmhouse. I found if I focused on one project at a time, I wasn’t so overwhelmed. Plus I made fewer mistakes. Happy renovating

Joel, you should consider a transitional design which is incorporating a traditional and contemporary aesthetic. You can also have your base cabinets in one color and the upper cabinets in the other color (lowers in green/uppers in cream).
Kitchen looks good. People still want to put a big island in the middle. We decided not to, and I'm very grateful we didn't as it affords much more space. It seems practical though for you.
Best kitchen I had was anthracite cupboards inside and out
