This tiger was extinct for 78 years. On July 31, Kazakhstan let one walk out into the wild.
It’s not a clone. There was no lab. The Caspian tiger vanished in 1948 after its rivers were drained and its prey collapsed — the last one in Kazakhstan was shot that year. Then geneticists tested the museum skins: the Caspian tiger and the Siberian tiger (Amur tiger) are the same subspecies, nearly identical.
So it never vanished from Earth. It vanished from the map.
Kazakhstan didn’t clone anything. They brought its twin home. A female named Umit — “Hope” — was released into the 450,000-hectare Ile-Balkhash Nature Reserve. The first wild tiger there in 78 years. No country has ever done this before.
If it works, extinct stops meaning permanent.

They need to start releasing more endangered animals back to the wild to save their species. They also need to give wild-animals back their land
