FAQ

1. Why I use the word “expat”
In Thailand, foreigners are stamped “Non-Immigrant” in their passport. That means you must check in every 90 days, can’t work in jobs reserved for Thais, can’t own land, and can be deported (and banned for 5–10 years) if caught working without a permit. So while I’d love to call myself an immigrant, legally we’re not — hence the word expat.

2. What I do for a living
I run a health foods company here in Thailand and have a work permit that covers all YouTube activities. I’ve paid tax in Thailand for over 10 years — through my own companies (an English school and a jazz lounge), as well as during my career in the 5-star hotel industry. And yes — I speak Thai.

3. Can foreigners own land in Thailand?
No. But a superficies agreement allows you to control the land for 30+ years, and houses here are relatively affordable (1–2 million THB). If you have children, owning a home is essential for their security. Still, it’s smart to keep around 80% of your net worth in high-performance assets outside Thailand.

4. About my wife
We’ve been together 12 years of my 15+ years in Thailand. She’s a finance graduate, hardworking, traditional, and loyal — she earned more and owned more property than me when we met, and she’s stood by me through both success and struggle.

  2. Very interesting , speically about women condition, and about Laws, lawyers ………. but as I know, everywhere abroad ther is the risk that you cannot go back to your Country because the cost of life . this lady is very STRONG

  3. I came to South East Asia for the first time in 1987. At first I thought I came to paradise. I am married to a Filipina since 1989.
I ran into her back home in Switzerland, where she worked for nice American diplomats.
She saved my life in many ways and we have two lovely kids in their Midthirties. She was the one who was sceptical living in the Philippines. We own a house there and I travelled the country more than most people on the planet. So I experienced a lot of good and bad things as well. Three time I got extremely sick travelling and once I was in intensive care and my wife had to pay the hospital bill every single day. If you do not have the money you will die in the street. And the health system in the Philippines is not half as good as people say, specially in the Provinces.

I can say that in general you have to be careful much more to fellow expats than to simple rural Filipinos. I bet it is the same in Thailand.
I think there are two completely different kind of travellers in South East Asia: Those who drink themselves to oblivion, party, have girl after girl and rot physically and mentally as well and others who really take interest in the cultures of the country they are in and show respect for the people and customs.
If you are loyal and honest, most simple provincial people are kind, helpful and loyal to you as well. I made some marvellous experiences. But we must face the fact. Westerners are and will always be foreigners and outsiders. And once you are old and very sick, you are better off in Europe. I had guys with Filipina wives talking about retiring in the Philippines for ages. They emigrated there, got extremely sick and came back in less than a year.

  4. I'm simply amazed.
I've been living in Pattaya off and on for 26 and as far as I can recall, I've never heard of Nikki.
However now that I've had an introduction, I think she's simply great and wish I'd known her a long time ago.

  5. Hello Nicky i was in Pattaya in 2024. I really enjoyed myself in Thailand. I do strongly agree with you. I Would consider living part time there as i am almost retired. Hmm i feel it's the most important to respect the Thai country and there way of life.

  6. I can totally identifying with the way men worldwide miss treat women because they are poor, the men of this world respect and love her! She is the one that makes the miracles happen…,,,,, free the women from sexual abuse and assault from men and others! Sex will be used against eachother instead of being mutually beneficial and loving 🥰 carry on men and Mother Nature will send her unseen……
