Why GEN4 Will Change Formula E Forever

The launch of the GEN4 Formula E race car underlines a step change in electric racing performance in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Set for its racing debut in the 2026/27 Season, the GEN4 machine reaches speeds of over 335kph and 0-200kph in 4.4 seconds, 1.5 seconds faster than the current GEN3 Evo, with a 71% increase in power in ATTACK MODE compared to its predecessor.

The GEN4 car is also more road-relevant than ever, with some of the world’s biggest automotive manufacturers (Porsche, Nissan, Jaguar, Stellantis with both Citroën and Opel, Mahindra, Lola) taking these innovations from track to road. GEN4 is not just faster, it’s a leap across generations, showing how far electric racing has come in just twelve seasons since Formula E’s inception and a declaration of the direction the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is headed.

  1. Would really like to see slicks. They'd be quicker around every track by a substantial margin, racing would be better, and it would create pit stops for tire changes instead of an energy boost that still makes the car slower compared to what slicks would do.

  2. I'm def not a "ICE vs EV" guy, I like both and think each has a place. That said I'm glad they are using racing, FE and EV-Rally, to push the tech forward. Some amazing car innovation has come from racing, in all aspects. Super cool!

  3. You talk of F E sustainability and yet you don’t discuss that these batteries are made in UNSAFE conditions and SLAVE LABOR in some countries that provide battery raw materials. You don’t share how you discard used batteries because manufacturing batteries and discarding these afterwards CREATE MORE POLLUTION THAN ANY FUEL MOTOR. So what is NOT sustainable is actually your lies.

  4. How does this work? When Lawson crashed into Gasly, sending him flying, he didn't even get a warning, just a pat on the back and carried on. Today, Hülkenberg and Lindblad gained positions outside track limits and received no penalty, nor did they have to give back the positions they gained. Franco Colapinto slowed down under a yellow flag, the FIA said that the reduction wasn't enough and penalized him with a 10-second penalty and 1 point on his super license. It's very clear they don't apply the same standards, especially if you're Latin American.

  6. A small 50 hp turbine APU should be integrated as a hybrid solution for full lenght races. Get rid of the gearbox on the F1 car and go full electric motors propulsion with a small turbine APU and a small battery pack and ultracapacitors.

  8. If the FIA was looking to do the right thing environmentally it shouldn't be running 2 near identical race formats, one electric and one hybrid.
Both have the same environmental costs of travel and research and development, racing itself only accounts for 1% of F1's environmental impact.
Yet running both series just amplifiés the issues.
Decide which one you want to run and dump the other and you'll actually do something positive for the planet if that is the point of Formula E and hybrid F1.
Incidentally returning F1 to ICE and using synthetic fuels would be greener than either of the current formulas as it's more sustainable than anything linked with lithium-ion batteries.

  9. I understand development could benefit road cars in the long run. But cut the crap (gaslighting) on the fact that doing so many traveling and shipment across the world using fossil fuel freighters is a good thing. It's not. Same applies to F1 "green" marketing.

  10. I am confident that FE will eventually overtake F1, at which point they'll either be merged or F1 will cease to exist for lack of relevance. Either way, I can't wait for this to happen because it will finally prove to even the most sceptic that there is NO EXCUSE to keep relying on fossil fuels.

  11. Gen 4 Dyson race. Which vacuum cleaner wil win?? Who cares? Formula e viewers worldwide….2 to 3 million. Formula one? 65 to 75 million. You're pumping money into something that is already dead but, then again, it hasn't stopped our government from doing the same.. for now.

  12. Each their own, but I personally find these cars boring as hell, I'd fall asleep watching them lol. Electric cars have instantaneous power and acceleration and G4 are 4WD, where as F1 has rpm and gear changes, it's more interesting and complex, not to mention the sound, particularly if they bring back the screaming 20,000 rpm V10, V8 at least and I believe they're working on it. The future of electric cars and the software will be so advanced that there won't be much driver input left. And those who think electric cars are more powerful, take a look at the 1000 foot drag race records.
