After WWII, West Germany became one of the world’s richest societies, and the baby boomers grew up with rising wages, affordable housing, and expanding welfare. Germany built a generous social contract around a growing workforce and the assumption that each generation could support the one before it. But birth rates fell, people lived longer, and boomers became the country’s largest and wealthiest generation. Now they are retiring as the workforce shrinks, leaving younger Germans to finance rising pensions and healthcare while struggling to build wealth themselves. The deeper problem is not the boomers, but a social contract built for a demographic reality that no longer exists.

  1. or maybe we could share the burden with the 200 billionairs and 2000 centimillionaires that managed to multiply their assets effortlessly on base of the economy us others actually ran during the past 50 or so years, since we stopped asking them to contribute to the cost of society

  2. Boomers didn't all get together and decide to screw younger generations. The politicians in power at the time did that and I doubt it was intentional. At the time the population was booming and they assumed more people in each generation would make the system work. If they are guilty of anything it's not having Nostradamus powers.
I do hope younger generations' kids, if they bother to have any, curse them for just being alive during the time period they lived through. You look to be of voting age so you are now personally responsible for the politicians running your country. Good luck.

  3. Boomers didn’t screw anyone. The elected representatives did. The average person has really no influence in what happens with laws other than who they vote for.

  4. You can thank the pill as that's where all the children went who were going to pay for it, boomers didn't do this feminism and the pill did the "used for family planning" was a lie as women used it to bang every chad and have no children, So you're blaming the wrong people blame government they knew this was coming they have the demographic data and instead of investing in retirement funds they pretended and imported parasites that will kill you.

  5. I am a 22 year old German and turns out: I am fucked.
its awesome to see someone from another country to be interested in Germany. And also to have some reporting from an outsider's perspective. Sadly, the problem will continue to get worse, as current state elections and general political opinion are not really open to a fact and figure based research and arguments. A second problem is, that many people my age are either thinking about leaving Germany or not having kids because "What for? They wouldn't have it good…"
Nevertheless, I really appreciate your video. And I will share it.

  6. This video follows a classic generational divide narrative "boomers had it all, younger folks foot the bill".
By framing the issue strictly as an intergenerational clash rather than looking at how added value is shared between capital and labor,
this narrative deliberately sidesteps other viable political choices:
    1 Raising employer contributions on corporate profits;
    2 Taxing windfall profits or stock buybacks to fund the public pension system;
3 Cracking down on corporate tax breaks.
Even if this YouTuber isn't directly on BlackRock's payroll, this ideological framing objectively serves only the interests of unregulated finance. It primes public opinion to accept the rollback of collective rights and the shift toward private stock markets as nothing more than an unavoidable biological reality. Eat the rich.

  7. Meanwhile, the politicians get get so heftily paid because they 'has such a responsible job' left the people to be shafted.
About time we confiscate the ill gotten gains: they chose to ignore their job, let them at least pay for the ramifications.

  8. Rubbish.

Wealth isnt money. It is the number of goods you can produce vs demand. And demand is also down.

So there is only a bookkeeping problem. Which will be solved by printing money.

  9. Western governments had 40 years to prepare for this demographic cliff, but chose short-term band-aids instead.

    What they should have done:
Pre-fund pensions with sovereign wealth reserves during the baby boom. Automatically link retirement age to life expectancy decades ago. Invest heavily in automation to boost per-worker productivity. Use strict, points-based migration tailored only to specific skill shortages.

What they are doing wrong now:
Replacing productivity with raw headcount. Ignoring why young locals can't afford families due to housing costs and stagnant wages. Patching broken pension math with unmanaged, low-wage immigration instead of fixing the underlying system.

You can't solve a structural math problem with panic policy.

  10. In Germany, we have been aware of the demographic pension problem associated with the pay-as-you-go system for decades. Unfortunately, the only effective way to save for the future via capital markets is using one's heavily taxed net income. One then pays annual advance taxes and, ultimately, capital gains tax on the profits upon payout. All other systems have so far merely been a gift to insurance companies.

  11. I hate that people blame a whole generation, of everything from factory workers to engineers, for the state of the system.
This problem rests firmly on the Government, the banks and our social systems.

  12. The problem is politicians who wasted the money of the German pensions. Already Helmut Kohl was misusing the money of the pension fonds for other purposes. Merkel misused pension fonds to pay for uncoordinated mass migration, same the Ampel coalition did, and Merz is also doing the same. Merz paid 2 billion euros only to Sudan as development help, whilst German schools cannot heat in winter, therefore tell children's to stay at home because of the lack money. German government is wastin 9 billions euro to so called NGOs ever year. A ridiculous system of civil servants with luxury incomes and luxury pensions is sucking out the German tax payers like a bunch of leeches. And German government is wastin billions for totally nonsense projects like Berlin airport, Stuttgart 21, Elbphilharmonie and many more. The governments of past 30 years caused this Desaster. And now the want to press out the last generation which had the chance of building something. German government is like a gambler. They are desperately seeking for money, once they found a way to take it, it is burnt like a straw fire. Then the search for money starts again.

  13. Boomers didn't "screw the younger generation simply by getting old", they screwed future generations by destroying the "oppressive" social dynamics that made something like a pension system sustainable, gorging themselves on the proceeds of economic growth while re-investing nothing for future generations, and sucking the lifeblood out of the youth with rents/taxes/arbitrage until nothing but desiccated husks remain, just to drag their final years of mindless consumption out for as long as possible instead of exiting gracefully.

  14. Germany 🇩🇪 has NOT been a Sovereign country since 1945. They’ve been under occupation and complete control by the US and are now vassals of both the EU dictatorship and US hegemony 😅

  15. The boomers are responsible for the demographic shook. It was their responsibility to have children. They did not. Now they must be held responsible for that by either lower payouts or side jobs.

  16. The poorest people have to pay the richest people pensions.

Pensions as a concept made sense when the rich were paying the poor but they don't work the other way around.

I fear that conventional pensions/retirement has outlived it's usefulness

  17. You talked about how much interests boomers had to pay but also consider the average housing price back in their days when they were in their 30s. It's world difference between then and now, they had it good, way too good tbh.

  18. Boomers have been screwed as well. They were charged large pension contributions that they would be getting poor returns on even if the pension system kept its promises. Somebody in Germany sure got rich on this, but it wasn't "the boomers."

  19. This is also why "older" generation Yes millenials included have pushed for immigration / pro immigration policies because dependency ratio has to be balanced somehow because native population simply dont have enough kids so they need to supplement that by someway and immigration has proven to minimize that but that has been largely done by sweeping the side effects of mass migration under the rug and pretending it doesnt exist.

Boomers and large part early millenials had most time to accumulate capital and savings to accomodate their retirement plans but some of them have genuinely havent done it.
