I Closed My Venture X for the Bilt Palladium Card — Here’s Why

I closed my Capital One Venture X for the Bilt Palladium. Here’s why this travel rewards card fits my points-and-miles strategy better.
In this video, I break down why I moved away from the Venture X, what the Bilt Palladium gives me for its $495 annual fee, and how I plan to use Bilt Cash in the real world. We’ll look at everyday 2X earning, Rent Day, the Point Accelerator, transfer bonuses, Rakuten, Bilt Travel, and transfer partners like World of Hyatt and Atmos Rewards. I’ll also show why Bilt’s combination of transferable points, airline partners and alliances, hotel points, and other travel rewards can be so valuable for award travel and potentially help turn credit card points into free flights and hotel stays. Most importantly, I’ll explain why the Palladium makes more sense for me — and what you should consider before making the same decision.

  1. I only have to use it once a year to justify holding the VX so if I do anything it would be to add the Bilt or another annual fee card, if they pay for themselves they stay, if not downgrade or close. I am not sure Capital 1 would approve me again anyway

  2. If you "naturally" spend a lot that you hit that 3.33x multiplier with ease., then sure bilt is good. But if you don't spend much that it'll take months to unlock the extra multiplier then it's not worth it. As a travel multiplier, Vx is significantly better: 5x flight 10x hotels.

Also capital one has Capital One Offer. I have seen extra 4x on Qatar or 2x Singapore Airlines or 5x Marriott for booking them *directly* (not CapOne travel portal). 5x on Lyft, 4x Walmart etc

  3. Would you recommend the Palladium for someone who has no rent/mortgage, and is a low spender (less than 450/mth for dining & groceries combined)?

  4. Closing C1VX? It’s a bolt strategy cotton, let’s see if it works out for him. Bilt 1.0 was too good and didn’t last and 2.0 is too good but in a different way. Venture X might not let you back in when Bilt gets nerfed and VX is not too high maintenance to just keep around doing the minimum.
