It’s kind of like our own little economic terrarium with some genuinely fascinating specimens that have evolved inside…
Within this games two and a half decade economic cycle, it TOO has developed everything from, demographic problems, stagflation, its own version of a baby boomer generation, anti-human labour practices,
and on top of all of this, individual wealth that has now had time to grow to (if you would pardon the pun) astronomical levels of inequality…
According to data released by the game developers own in house economist, the top 5% of active players collectively accounted for 67.7% of all the in game currency currently in circulation.
So not really a radically different shape to what we see in the real world… but even amongst that group things are extremely top heavy.

  1. I played EVE for about 1.5 years from 2014 to 2015. In that time, going from 0, I made about 500B, solo in high sec just trading and manufacturing. Stopped playing because I got banned for selling ISK. It was fun ride. I guess, I would be in the top 0.01% today.
Anyways, most players are poor because they don't play the game to generate assets but to play out some space pirate fantasy or whatever.

  2. 24:36 I'd argue that it still kind of translates to the real world – save for the tech billionaires who are also eccentric and care little for current preservation of humanity, most wealthy people want to 'conserve' that wealth by maintaining the status quo – composition of wealthy to poor.. this point can be seen in how some of those same billionaires are advocates for increasing birth rates so as to maintain the larger lower class.

  3. The cadence and arrangement of concepts doesn't give information as a Youtube Experience. This is content specificallyd esigned to cause human loneliness to engage with the AI summary feature. For example, "To Break Into the Upper .0whatever% as if he's talking about simply enjoy what would be the majority of gameplay. He says it's extraordinarily difficult to join a group as if he's talking about the majority, but he's talking about an extreme minority. It's narratively deceptive, or disingenuous. 25 minutes!?

Point A : What is fun about Eve Online, how is it a game and not a economic simulator in the first place.

Point 2. How much of that fun can you experience via the initial subscription fee and free-time-reasonable gameplay.

Conclusion: What is the gameplay like for new players and how much influence are the elite wielding over the over all culture of the mutliplayer social experience- and that's it.

and that's not what this is.

  4. In such games, developers have a rigid and robust solution .
    Class stratification.
Make it two, three, four different games in game.
I new player plays a different game : exploring and grinding.
A middle players plays a differennt game : market and grind
An endgame player plays a different game : Explore new content , market
This player base distinction and not putting those players in same league will solve the problem.
Try to push end game players to fight and compete with each other.
Try to push new players into a competition between each other. And create a better ladder to move them up.
So end game players will spend their resources while winners of bottom climbs the ladder and reach end game.
Also regular players or losers will get a lot of resources just by playing. Even if they lose they progress.
It's highly monetizable and clear approach for such games.
why it works ? -> because in real world we have scarce resources and less control over structures.
In a game , developers have immense control over resources and systems. They can doo both good sides unlike real world politics.
What PA did wrong in black desert is : It implements these class stratification a little bit via T1 T2 Uncap wars and Edana content.
But wrong thing is they are pushing everyone to endgame and diminishing existing gamme content. I think its a tactic to keep things fresh and uptodate.
So players will spend and compete in highest tier. In real world you can't give everyone mansions. So a balanced approach will squueze rich via politics.

  5. You said "a very poor american is statistically much wealthier than most people in most of the rest of the world". This is simply not true. Wealth means savings and assets against liabilities, and by that definition many Americans have negative wealth. I think what you meant to say is that a poor American has more income, but income does not directly translate to quality of life due to cost of living and other effects.

  6. It’s things like player space stations and player alliances. I’d love to see no man’s sky have a community history with even half the soul and scale of Eve online. The amount of video essays on YouTube which are just economy/sociology lessons tonight through real player events in eve online.

    E as crises cíclicas?

  8. Being born in real life isn’t a choice though, so if Elon Trump Bezos and Zuck can raise fertility rate of the population then they and their descendants can play their oligarch game forever. No one wants to play the game in real life anymore.

  9. These guys have no clue how real life economics works. They talk about "wealth inequality" while just talking about some players having more money than others. This isn't comparable what real life wealth inequality is. Which is just based on total value of property and assets owned.
Not just that but were talking about video game which generates money from thin air. Meaning… There is literally no issue of someone having most money when quests and selling to A.I wonders creates more to the system.

  10. It's amazing how far/long this game has went. I was one of those beta players and played a few years back in the early years. Was great fun! Merlins were such cool little ships.

  11. The wildest takeaway is that a completely unregulated, cutthroat space game where theft and scams are literally encouraged still has LESS wealth inequality than the actual real world. Does this prove that real-world financial regulations protect the ultra-wealthy more than they protect the working class, or is EVE just saved by the fact that you can't starve to death if you don't pay rent?

  12. At one point I had like $1000 to $1500 of assets in Eve Online solely from in-game trading and market arbitrage. I felt like a king. Now it's worth idk, half of that simply due to inflation and me not playing. I can't even imagine having tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of assets in Eve. Eve is insane really.
