December 1941. It’s the early days of the Pacific War and Wake Island – a small atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean – is enduring daily raids by Japanese bombers. The defenders must rely on half-finished fortifications, outdated coastal guns, the four surviving planes of USMC Fighter Squadron 211, some AA guns that have AA directors, the help of civilian builders, and sheer determination. The poorly equipped but well-trained marines are busily preparing for the worst.
On December 11th, a Japanese landing force under Rear Admiral Kajioka sails closer to Wake Island, determined to obtain this atoll as a forward air base for the Imperial Japanese Navy. The bomber pilots have reported that over the last three days they have leveled the defences there, so not much resistance is to be expected.

my great grandfather was on the wake island, he took down multiple japenease soldiers and planes with the anti-air machine guns. after Japenease soldiers rushed on the island, my great grandfather took one of the parts needed for for anti-air machine gun, and threw it in the water so the Japeanse couldnt use it. you also forgot to mention that they did War Crimes by killing most U.S. survivors who already surrended.

They skip a pretty significant part of the story at the end.
The Japanese hadn’t won. At no point were the US forces successfully overrun. Cunningham saw flags raised over Wake Island and assumed the worst as his communication lines had been cut. Those flags were Japanese good luck flags carried by individual soldiers. Cunningham went about forcing his men to surrender thinking he was saving their lives from dying for a lost cause. In actuality, the US marines were kicking the Japanese’ asses to a ridiculous degree. Only 52 US soldiers had been killed in combat with over a thousand Japanese casualties. 2/3 of the Japanese landing forces had been removed from combat before Cunningham surrendered.
Also, they MASSIVELY downplay what those two last wildcat pilots pulled off in that final aerial battle. On screen, they only showed two aircraft which those men took down. In reality, they scored a combined 21 kills before they were finally brought down.
