I have one of these rtl8812au things, as of kernel 6.18 LTS/7.0+ I think it does just work on newer versions of Linux, it got upstreamed recently.

I feel like the ideal implementation would be through Switch Homebrew, but I imagine the wireless connection would be a problem. Perhaps some sort of cheap dongle could solve that and turn a homebrewed Switch into the ideal Wii U interface replacement?
