On March 21, 2025, the Air Force picked Boeing to build the F-47, its sixth-generation fighter for the Next Generation Air Dominance program. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin called it a significant advancement over the F-22 and said it would fly farther and cost less. An Air Force comparison chart lists the F-22’s combat radius at about 590 nautical miles and the F-47’s at more than 1,000, and plans at least 185 F-47s. The F-22 line closed with the last of 187 production jets delivered in May 2012. The F-47’s first flight is expected in 2028. Meanwhile, on February 4, 2023, an F-22 from Joint Base Langley-Eustis shot down a Chinese surveillance balloon off South Carolina with a single AIM-9X fired from about 58,000 feet.

Lockheed already did that for them, the F35 flies further than the F22 and further than the F47 is supposed to fly. The F35 totals less than half the price of the F22. Boeing is not going to make a better fighter than Lockheed, they can’t even keep the doors on the airlines. All they said was cheaper and it flys further, not better stealth, more weapons capability, more advanced radar, nothing but distance and they already have that covered.
F22 could only travel 500 miles from its base without refueling and the F35 300 miles from its base …..interesting
