I Hacked Into The World’s Worst E-Bike And Fixed It

I borrowed the world’s worst eBike, the Reevo, on the condition that I would fix it and return it in better condition than when I picked it up. It turned into a massive project of jailbreaking the computer, printing parts, and more!

  1. There are lots of questions about runaway Reevo mode, and it's a fun topic. Let's go deeper. First of all, I did add a "PAS Timeout" that turns off PAS after a few minutes, and is selectable in the menu. If you set this up from my Github repo, that feature is active. A lot of you also suggested a weight sensor on the seat, but that would disable pedal assist if you stood up out of the saddle, which is when you would need it most. Another suggestion was the dead man switch. That one would work! This is all fun to think about, so keep the ideas coming. I just MIGHT get another Reevo for myself.

  2. Well done. Such a good job of removing all the corporate bullshit electronic locks that make the thing useless 5 minutes after the warranty runs out. Now if you could do the same for everything from cars to tractors to mobiles to TV's to ……

  3. Should have also installed a freewheel / freehub, i.e. with ratchet and pawl to allow coasting freely or pushing it around without the pedals moving. That would have eliminated the runaway issue. There is actually a chain & gears visible in the motor compartment where this could be done.

  4. Wow I just watched your whole Reevo story arc…that was a fun ride! I really enjoyed how you hacked the thing and made this one guy's bike at least slightly more respectable. I was wondering what, if any, improvement there would be to the rolling resistance from a lube job. It seems like it's just destined to have significant rolling resistance because of the wheel design. It seems like they could have maybe really made something good and they must have run short on schedule or money so they just didn't. With a full shop and some experienced individuals I'll bet a replacement wheel set could be fabricated and maybe it could be quieter!

  5. The fact that you changed the brakes BACK to the ones that could hurt someone because theyre so loud is wild to me LOL. I would take high pitched screaming brakes over brakes you have to hit a minute in advance any day because they just don't work for emergencies then. Youll never know when something will just pop up in your path and you have to brake quickly, if it cant do that, it's a huge hazard to not just him but anyone or thing unlucky enough to cross paths with him.

  6. Plastic, when recycled (ground into pellets), becomes quite brittle, like your bike parts, and the recycling typically happens after hours, when management is gone. A melt test will identify this issue.

  7. I don't even like bikes, but I found this so interesting! I like how the engineer seemed to design it for hack-ability, like they knew there were serious issues but it wasn't within their scope to address.

  8. So, you fixed the brakes that were so underpowered it took like half a minute to stop, but they made a noise so you swapped them back????? Tf are you doing???

  9. That's awesome of you to help others out who shelled out 💰 and got a 🍋
This could really help others who have been trying to reverse engineer and serve as a stepping stone to even more development and customization. You've taken a bike that was fairly terrible and open the door to making it actually useful for getting around town.

  10. Holy smokes I used to watch you as a kid all the time and completely forgot this channel existed… and saw it on TikTok and it made a ton of memories come flooding back I got my first mountain bike because of you and I used to ride around acting like I was on trails just like you would record and I remember when you made a drop in your back yard and messed up your collar bone … Love this channel !!!!!❤
