Reed had to play against a team that focused on keeping Reed in a pocket, the defensive ends for Kentucky kept him contained. Reed having to be a drop back passer took away 50% of his skill set. That was so huge. Defense won the game. Great scheme.

The reason they looked so good last year is because they only played 1 of the top like 5-6 SEC teams last year.
You have to tailor your offense to what your players' strengths are. Marcel Reed isn't a Tom Brady type pocket passer. He's a running back who also throws the ball some. More like a Michael Vick or a Tommie Frazier in his play style.
I think the OC who replaced Collin Klein needs to go back and look at some old games from late-90's VT or early-90's Nebraska. Then he needs to incorporate the concepts those teams were using into his offense. QB runs, some option, play action off that stuff.
Let's go to the NFL and take a trip back to 2012. Denver was expected to be a playoff team and have started 1-4. It's obvious Kyle Orton is the problem and not the solution at QB. Coach fox benches Orton and elevates the backup to be the starter, one Timothy Richard Tebow by name. Tim Tebow will not function well in offense designed for Kyle Orton, so coach Fox redesigns the offense, making it run-heavy with most of the passing off play-action. Denver goes from 1-4 to winning their division and beating Pittsburgh in a playoff game.
