PENSACOLA, Fla. — The United States Navy retired one of its critical planes on Tuesday.
This marks the end of an era for the C-2 Greyhound, which delivers people and equipment to and from aircraft carriers.
The plane flew in from Norfolk, Virginia, and made its final stop aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola.
After six decades of service, it now has a new home at the National Naval Aviation Museum.
“It’s very sad to me that it’s coming in, but I feel a lot of satisfaction that we did it safely,” said Paul Ingram, commander of fleet squadron 40. “We did it right, and it’s coming to a close like this.”
The Blue Angels escorted the C-2 Greyhound Tuesday morning.
The aircraft was honored with a water salute — a military symbol of respect.
For Ingram, his story with C-2s started in 2009 at the top of his Navy career.
He says he has flown the C-2 Greyhound on several deployments, spanning upwards of 30 countries.

Agora faz sentido porque um desses veio aqui em São Paulo
In COD….We trust.
Soon I’m going to visit the C-2 donated to the Brazilian Air Force Museum in São Paulo
So sad😔😭
So sad. I can't even count how many times I traveled to and from carriers on the COD.
Incredible!
I seriously doubt if the V-22 can haul as much as the Greyhound could.
osprey has killed more marines than ever even flew on the greyhound – it's an accident that happens over and over and over again
osprey is a god damn death trap – it's killed more marines that boot camp
I saw a couple of these at Jacksons Airport in Papua New Guinea and considered it a treat. Fast jets are cool but these are the machines that kept everything going.
Considering the price of jet fuel, I wonder how much it costs taxpayers to have 6 fighter jets do a ceremonial escort for a retiring plane? What a waste! But at least they got the gullible local news to eat it up! 😂🖕👎
Twin brother of E-2 Hawkeye ❤
Really bad decision.
Would you rather fly on a greyhound or an osprey? One can land with an engine out, the other beats the ambulance to the scene of the crash by an hour.
Ospreys are hot garbage.
Proof that you can't fix stupid.
I doubt the Osprey can replace this reliable veteran 100%, in reliability, cost, maintenance, you name it. But I'll go see the C-2. The only similarity is that their wings fold.
There goes a airplane
The Next CALFIRE AIRTANKER ??????
They should keep em in storage for a while and not give em out to museums. Just….in….case. The osprey may end up having issues trying to replace the c2
they could have convert these planes to carrier-borne air refueling tanker.
I know a guy who has over 500 traps in the C-2. What an absolutely ugly dependable irreplaceable workhorse.
Sad.
Thank you for your service, noble beasts.
The E-2 is still operational
So, what's the Navy gonna do, when, not if, the Ospreys get grounded again?????
They will regret that decision very shortly, there is no aircraft that can replace it. The Osprey can't even come close
Super cool for the Blues to escort the COD on its final landing!
Damn
3 down Greyhound!
She was an unsung hero for sure. Stationed on the Nimitz, hearing over the 1MC the mail has landed made 6,000 personnel have a slightly better day.
Grumman has been on American carriers since 1931 with the Grumman FF-1. Now there's only one official Grumman aircraft left. Doesn't seem right.
Grumman C-2A(R) Greyhound 1964-2026
I bet this thing cost a tenth to fly and repair than the osprey that’s replacing it. Such a shame.
It's sad that they didn't evolve the technology in the C-2 to keep it relevant.
CODs served well. Respect for the pilots and crew. Interesting if any planes eventually get sold to the civilian market.
Costly, Foolish mistake.

Sorry… Solely rely on the mv-22 is a bit of a gamble !
And if they… didn't waste so much on that LCS program.
And let Northrop Grumman design a new Cod !
Something with turbofan engines, air refueling capability AND able to carry a half dozen personnel and crew of course. But carry along also a F-35 B engine with room to spare… as in not millimeters to… !
One more thing… I know…it will be nicer to fly out, hover and land on deck without the jolt !
But… It's was the only way for personnel and civilians to experience a Cat & Trap !
In COD we trust
Bad decision to retire
Worked on the C-2 Greyhound an NAS North Island (1994-96) with VRC-30 "The Providers". Originally had orders to VRC-50 "The Foo Dogs" which decommissioned in Guam before my transfer from Atsugi Japan.
Great aircraft to work on and a varied mission moving dummy torpedoes, working with special operations from NAB Coronado as a jump/ drop platform and celebrity delivery from Coronado to a carrier afloat for trap and cat visiting the crew and returning.
A bygone era of an aircraft that brought mail to 10's of thousands of sailors and Marines deployed and much needed parts to keep the Air Wing's up and flying.
Great memories. Great aircraft. From November of '64 till this last flight. A long service and well deserved retirement.
Plane
Damn! I just recently finished a series where they were training pilots to fly the C-2
i wonder how many times parts been replace on this thing! would be intresting to know
