  1. Do not shut this station down. It’s gonna make things even more inconvenient. T train transfer is planned to be here and you can have access to the uptown M101, M102, and M103 bus service. And actually, let’s have the MTA build a new out-of-system passageway between 3rd Avenue and Union Square to go a step further of reducing some of the overcrowding at Union Square.

  2. Trains would just get held in the abandoned station anyway as they wait for the train in front of them to empty out at Union Square. Plus, Union Square and 1st Ave are crowded enough as is, you really don't need to add more people closing 3rd Ave.

  3. Boston has a similar situation downtown; three stations within walking distance of each other – Park St, Downtown Crossing and State Street. But they are the oldest and most historic parts of the subway. And you can walk between them without going outside. Like if it's raining. 👍

  4. The MTA already closed many stations already, and some should be restored and reactivated. What the MTA could do is just run some express L trains at peak hours. Don't close the station.

  5. This is just a self serving attitude on the part of this engineering douche because he has to spend a few more minutes in the train. Maybe the station is used less than the others but people STILL use it and live nearby. Basically, he wants to steal a few minutes of time away from those people for his own convenience. People like this need to just STFU.

  6. Just because a stop isn’t busy, doesn’t mean it has no use, there are businesses there & residents on top of the fact the subway should expand not shrink. I think best case would be create an “Express L” that skips it.

  7. First of all there are plenty of us who get off on third ave to go to work in the early hours of the morning. As for this software engineer stick to what you know and keep it moving…

  8. I looked at this guy for two seconds and said "I bet he works for an AI startup that has a website that's like a parody of meaningless business speak" and yup – googled him and can confirm this is the case

  9. Union Square and 1st Avenue platforms are overcrowded, 3rd Avenue is good crowd relief anyway. The time “saved” will be offset by how many more trains people have to miss because they can’t get on, not to mention the dangers of overcrowded platforms, especially at Union Square. So, as the MTA says. Thanks, but no thanks.
