Nikon Z5 best face & eye detect AF settings! #SHORTS

So far these are the settings I’ve learned work the best with the Nikon Z5 camera. There might be other adjustments that can help but I haven’t yet found anything else. See the main video for more information and important links!

Custom Settings Menu Tab:
a1 = AF-C priority selection = Focus,
a4 = Auto-area AF face/eye detection (selected),
‘I’ button options:
Auto-area AF and AF-C,
I tend to use aperture priority with a minimum shutter speed. Menu, photo shooting menu tab, ISO sensitivity settings, minimum shutter speed 1/100th or whatever you prefer. The most important part is making sure the AF-C priority is set to focus and not release so you get more photos properly focused where they should be.

  1. Hi Scott, thanks for this short clip. I've got nikon z5 and it autofocus on the eyes but when I point it to the background, it doesn't focus. I mean, I think the contrast autofocus doesn't work for me. I have always to press the shutter button.

  2. Scott, great explanation. Great videos.
    Question:

    I can not record in automatic focus subject traking mode WITHOUT pressing the shutter halfway. How can I do that 'cause I need my two hands to move the gimbal. Thx

  3. Great video! Does anyone know what my problem is: when using live view instead of viewfinder my autofocus settings are completely different f.e. i all of the sudden have no af-c anymore and my af modes are all gone (single point, dynamic, 3d, and auto) and are replaced by face priority, wide area, normal area, subject tracking… anyways great vid keep it up:)
