The E-Ink Endgame: Boox Note Air 6C REVIEW

If the Boox Note Air 6C was your first E-Ink device, you’d probably never guess how limited this category used to be.

Because this 10.3-inch color E-Ink tablet can essentially do it all: read ebooks, comics and PDFs, take handwritten notes, run pretty much any Android app you can think of—and even watch videos reasonably well.

This one device can replace your Kindle, your reMarkable and a surprising amount of what you’d normally use an Android tablet for so well that the more specialized E-Ink devices suddenly start to feel compromised in a way that wasn’t intended.

So that old description—“Jack of all trades … master of none”—doesn’t really apply here anymore.

And that’s what makes the Note Air 6C such an interesting release. The predecessor was already excellent at this whole all-in-one idea, so there wasn’t exactly an obvious problem Boox needed to solve. On paper, very little has changed. But in actual use, the 6C somehow still feels noticeably better.

So let’s find out where the differences actually come from, and why the Note Air 6C remains the closest thing to an all-inclusive E-Ink package.

  1. bought it… and while I was first sceptical, it has indeed replaced my beloved Supernote Manta. The pros just outweigh the cons. I'm using it solely for reading PDFs and taking handwritten notes and journalling.

  2. I'm gonna go with the kobo libra colour & the note air 6c combo. One as a dedicated reader with better portability and one for desk usage and more serious work.

Anyone have any feedback from either device, or reasons to go a different direction?

  3. Thank you for a thorough + to the point review video 👏Very tempting now indeed to get my hands on one of these beautiful devices 😁
Yet: as thorough + well made the content is, what makes any such review videos reaaalllllyyy hard for me to follow + watch until the end is when I'm continuously thrown spec numbers at 😳 Numbers just always throw my brain into knots + I must really concentrate very hard to be able to ignore the numbers to still understand what is mainly said 😏 I really very often skip such videos + am barely tempted to subscribe to any such channel + content creator for the same reason unfortunately … Thanks + great job anyway 😊

  4. But. it's still that dark color eink screen and it doesn't have buttons… So it's not really good at reading, which means it's a jack of all trades and master of none…. just like you said it wasn't

  5. You know… I already ordered the 6C, but this review is a 10/10 in answering all the questions I could hope to have asked. I dropped my beloved Remarkable 2 in July and was heartbroken to see what Remarkable has done to their lineup. I was going to get the 5C in August for my birthday, but it wasn't going to be financially wise. I am glad I saved up and waited. I'll take it as some sort of divine intervention making me wait a month or two for the 6C to release. Looking forward to mine.

  6. my problem with boox is battery … huge difference esp compared to remarkable and kindle scribe … charge cycles often dictates wear and tear … and so if i charge boox 5x more often than the other devices, it basically degrades at the same rate …

but functionality and productivity hands down goes to boox for me …

  7. Thanks for this review, it helped me choosing this one. 🙂

Can you tell me where I can find the illustrations you show on the "Kaleido 3 Display…" part please? They look so good!

  8. "Great review! I have a question about PDF workflows. You mentioned that on the Boox Note Air 6C, annotations are written directly into the PDF, so they stay when copied to a computer. If I highlight, export, and write notes on a PDF using the Kindle Colorsoft and then upload it to Google Drive, will it also preserve those handwritten notes and highlights inside the file? Thanks!"

  9. My favorite thing is that it’s still compatible with Wacom. I love my super note pen.

If anyone is looking for a good stylus. Go with a super note pen. They have never replace nibs and the writing feels like a fine tip pen on paper. They’re perfect

  10. I work with final book proofs, and I’m considering purchasing one of these devices for professional use. However, the publisher I work with exclusively uses Adobe Acrobat Reader. This may be a basic question, but before making a $600 investment, I’d like to confirm that this application is fully compatible with the reader and that I’ll be able to use it normally for my work.

  11. Thanks for your great review! It helped me decide on getting it! Just wondering what you meant by you can made the cap of the back of the pen a big more secure by twisting it? Because I can’t seem to twist it – it just locks in place magnetically when the flat edges align on the pen

  12. Boox is a hot toxic ex. Tempting but terrible track record. Cant wait for viwood to make a competitor. Cant trust boox with their lack of customer support and how quickly they replace their products with fairly minimal updates.

  13. what is the advantage over an oled android? …i already own an s7 tablet that looks great. is the battery life that much better? is the writing experience better?

  14. I'm impatiently waiting for the Mini C, but the lack of price difference and the wait time is pushing me to buy the 6C instead. Decisions decisions.

  15. This looks awesome! Is there a comparable device that has a nicer look to it? The black body with red feels a little cheap to me. I want to use this in professional settings so something closer to the Remarkable colors look much nicer to me… but I don't want a Remarkable.

  16. Thank you for the very complete review! My main goal is to read and annotate pdfs for academic purposes. I have a large amount of files stored on onedrive. Can I easily access them in Note air 6c? Do I need to download each file and upload it again? Or does that happen automatically?
