A fresh political row has erupted over Form 6, the application used by first-time voters to register on electoral rolls. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused the Election Commission of making unlawful and unconstitutional changes and has raised concerns over the impact of the SIR-related process on Gen Z voters.
The controversy centres on an additional SIR-related declaration on the online voter-registration process. Reports said two Election Commissioners had objected to the change, while the Election Commission has maintained that the original Form 6 was not amended and that the additional declaration was a separate annexure.
