Manly P. Hall’s Final Lecture: Mental Stress

Mental Stress was the last lecture Manly P. Hall gave. He never retired or stopped speaking publicly, and did so until the very end, for he would pass away 10 days after this lecture, on August 29, 1990.

Manly Hall left behind a treasure of wisdom in his body of work, especially these audio lectures that is our humble service and great honor to share openly and freely for all seekers of wisdom.

Thank you for listening, thank you, thank you.

  1. I was raised like this, much of us were. The cell phone was the biggest mistake we all made.
The only thing we can do now, is disavow anything that has to do with convenience, that’s barely an option now

  2. MPH passed away the day before my 20th birthday on 8/30. I was an absolute mess then; an alcoholic, drug addict with no direction or purpose in life whatsoever. Every day was a party with the only thought being what I/we could steal and sell to buy more alcohol and drugs. I’m so grateful that I made it through those lessons. Some of those old ‘friends’ are still in and out of prison to this day. My story shows that almost anyone can pull themself out of that type of lifestyle by changing your thoughts, words and actions. I can attest though that this is easier said than done. Looking at my astrological chart reveals that I probably have an edge over others in this regard, thankfully. At 56, I have a wife of 20 years, two amazing sons, a career, house/land, and a spiritual connection with the Divine that I didn’t think was even possible. MPH’s lectures have helped me strengthen that understanding over the past 5 years. I’m very grateful for all these lectures you post. 😇🙏🏻

  3. Welcome back! 🙌 It’s been about five months since the last Manly P. Hall video, so I was really relieved to see a new one pop up. I’ve always looked forward to listening whenever a new one comes out. Your videos have helped me look at my life more clearly and actually apply what I learn. I understand life gets busy, so I really appreciate you continuing to make time for the channel. It means a lot. 🙏

  4. It's always a pleasure to listen to these. Thanks for uploading! Interesting to think that this was his last lecture in this life. But I'm sure a life well lived gets rewarded ☺

  5. At 17:05 Manly P. Hall talks about importance of doing “what’s RIGHT”. Terrance McKenna gets into depth of that concept: “To do only what’s Right, True and Beautiful is the high end. But “Right” is very subjective and tricky. And “True” is even trickier! What’s remaining is “Beautiful” The Universe will reward or condemn you based on your personal tastes”. It’s as close as very religious philosopher and novelist Fydor Dostoyevsky’s belief “Beauty will save the world”. Pure Nature is beautiful. Unconditional Love is beautiful. So, the values we have to keep in our hearts and our deeds are already present.

  6. “The more things change, the more they stay the SAME” a French proverb sums up this lecture of Manly P. Hall on current world affairs and dysfunctional families in broken societies. The Universe always seems to intervene just in time to save Earth🙏

  7. I just realized that Large Language Models (LLMs) could be used for good:
    1. Extract very high quality transcripts from archived recordings that are difficult to hear.
    2. Text to speech LLMs can reproduce a close facsimile to Manly Hall which can then read the transcript from broken audio to produce a YouTube video like this.

This way we could use the modern “AI” technology boom for something actually good: making more Manly Hall available to the world!

Both of those technologies already exist. The state of the art in extracting high quality transcripts from bad or noisy audio is so good it will blow your mind. This technology is freely available open source, it just requires you buy or rent a computer to run the LLM. Even a 10 year old cheap laptop is powerful enough for this kind of audio transcription use case. I do this myself with whisper.cpp (this isn’t the state of the art, it’s just the easiest to get started) on a 10 year old cheap laptop. Basic text to speech (TTS) is just as easy with old hardware. High quality voice synthesis requires more modern hardware or you can do it online for super cheap.

  8. Thanks exceedingly dear friend Hall –
Manly P. Hall — Mental Stress, Integrity, and Inner Peace

00:00 — Mental Stress in a Troubled World
Hall begins with political fear, war, anxiety, and the way world events create mental stress.

02:10 — Humanity Creates Many of Its Own Problems
He argues that much suffering comes from human selfishness, ambition, poor choices, and refusal to accept responsibility.

05:32 — Humanity Must Learn Through Consequences
Like a child resisting discipline, people often see consequences as unfair instead of recognizing the mistakes that caused them.

08:56 — Why Does God Allow Suffering?
Hall says divine justice works through natural law. Wrong actions eventually produce painful consequences.

11:48 — Justice Is a Form of Love
He argues that true love cannot reward wrongdoing forever. Moral law exists to guide humanity toward growth.

16:11 — Goodness Must Be Lived
Reading scripture or discussing morality is not enough. A person becomes good by actually living with integrity.

19:20 — The Mind Can Justify Almost Anything
The mind should search for truth, not invent excuses for selfishness or help us escape responsibility.

    26:37 — Technology Without Wisdom
Scientific progress, television, computers, and inventions do not automatically improve humanity if they are controlled by greed and profit.

30:03 — Integrity Is the Beginning of Peace
The first question should be: what is truly honest and right? Inner conflict decreases when behavior becomes aligned with integrity.

34:01 — Nature Wants Humanity to Grow
Hall describes divine or natural love as a force encouraging spiritual and moral growth rather than mere wealth or status.

38:06 — Stress Creates Fear and Suspicion
Continual anxiety can make people distrust friends, family, society, and even the goodness of life itself.

43:13 — Kindness and the Common Good
Real fulfillment comes through cooperation, service, love, respect, and helping others rather than living only for oneself.

    44:34 — Change Yourself First
Even when we cannot immediately change society, every person can begin by reforming their own character.

46:49 — Inner Peace Is the End of Stress
Peace comes from discovering what truly matters and living according to a higher purpose.

49:21 — Become Friends With Your Own Soul
Hall encourages quiet reflection, forgiveness, overcoming negative thoughts, and developing a deeper inner life.

52:23 — Wealth Is Not the Purpose of Life
He tells of a wealthy man who lost his fortune but found happiness by dedicating his life to helping others.

54:23 — The Proper Way to Live
Hall concludes with a call to simplicity, wisdom, love, dignity, service, and working for the common good.

    Central message:
Stress decreases when selfishness, fear, and competition are replaced by integrity, right living, kindness, simplicity, and inner peace.

  9. Thank you 🙏 Manly P. H. for all that you do for us and continue to still show up to do even in passing. Bless you brother Manly bless you. Thank you for your service. We are truly grateful. May you be healed, sealed, guided and protected upon your path.

  10. I was getting worried when nothing as posted in a while. As a student I long to sit at the feet of the Master, Mr Hall has been and continues to be " One who points the way." I am grateful for having been blessed by his insights.
