There Is No Hope For Marvel’s Mutants Anymore | Midnight X-Men 1 Spoilers

In Midnight X-Men 1, Jonathan Hickman, Matteo Della Fonte, and Arthur Hesli tear down Xavier’s dream of peaceful coexistence and replace it with a multi-sided Cold War!

As humans, mutants, vampires, and Empyres (mutant vampires) clash in the shadows of New York City, a fragile peace treaty holds the line between a delicate stalemate and total annihilation. So be sure to watch the video to find out where your favourite characters fall in this dark new universe.

  1. I feel like I'd be in the minority (no pun intended) here, but I believe stripping the oppressed minority angle may help with Midnight X-men. While I'm not the biggest X-men reader, from what I've heard through the grapevine, the oppressed theme doesn't really work with modern X-men as much as it did in the past. Like, with the Krakoa arc, the mutants were written as both oppressor, and the oppressed, as if the story was meant to be an Inhuman event, but it was changed last minute. And, at least going by another comics youtuber I've watched pointed out, it doesn't really work when you think about it. Storm, for instance, was treated as a goddess in her village. And Rockslide, despite being treated as a freak by his school, his family still loved and cared for him. Then, on the other end, it's not like humans fear of muntants ins unfounded. Magneto can, and would, disrupt the Earths magnetic field if he wanted to. And as Red Skull pointed out, Erik is a hypocrite. Jean and Emma could rewire your brain, and have you be none the wiser

  2. You'd think I was the ultimate vamp hater, but Cassidy from PREACHER and Alucard, from HELLSING, are my 2 OGs. I just have higher standards than what the world can produce. Props to 28 Days Of Night.

  3. As a Nightcrawler fan, I like this comic had him interacting with Stryker. I always felt he could be a great villain Kurt, since how they are both religious and driven by their belief. While uses his ideals to inspire himself and others to be kind and compassionate, Stryker is a fanatic zealout who promote hate and bigotry.

  4. Honestly of all Midnight series X-Men felt the less horror-esque. Its more of a urban fantasy with strong focus on politics between factions rather than trying to do anything disturbing with vampires.

  5. That smile on Storm is the sort that if you're on her shit list, you cannot possibly run fast enough. Certainly interesting so far and didn't immediately fall over the first vampire hurdle which is a plus, though too early to tell if it can keep it up. Poor bald Gambit tho I hope his hair grows back.

  6. Honestly I feel this is very limiting look at the latest Hulk run plus the connection between mutants and deviants Midnight X-Men should've been it's own monster horror story where mutants navigate the thin line between monster and human while trying to save a world that rejects them.

I mean Midnight Fantastic four is already playing with the idea of an eldritch Galactus more Cosmic Horror elements would be very appreciated especially for beings like Celestials who are already eldritch in their own way.

  7. I remember a while back you said X-Manhunt put you off of current X-Men, but watching this has me wondering, are you a seasoned X-Men reader? Just a curiosity more than anything

  8. Seeing you talk about marvel comics ina more DC centered channel is like seeing the watchtower channel trying to piece together marvel tv show lore😭
It's so surreal but this is pretty neat to see you review comics and know marvel comics as well

  9. Unlike “Midnight Spider-Man,” this is MORE what I expected from a “Midnight X-Men” book, but the interplay between the human, mutant, vampire, and M-pire (very clever) factions is more compelling than I anticipated. Might be keeping an eye out on this book.

  10. Can I be honest? I never like when vampires are thrown into Any ongoing mainstream story. Because they always complicate the entire setup. They can't be killed through normal means compared to most enemies. They're broken as fuck depending on the story. They can brainwash and turn allies into your enemies at a moment's notice, and just like Magic, they completely break the whole formula.

  11. It seems that normal mutants have a somewhat better relationship with humans if Striker is any example of things on how he interacts with Nightcrawler plus that statue of exodus in the church. It seems more like Vampires are the ones who want to wipe out mutants and vampire mutants in general.

  12. They definitely wrote this with the assumption folks have read a lot of Marvel. Does not feel like a welcoming to new readers line. Just a lot going on.

  13. i do wonder if they will do something interesting with wolv, deadpool and all the other mutants that have healing powers maybe they couldnt be turned or had to be made thralls? omg could you imagine a weapon V wolverine? also i wonder how mister sinister and apoclypse will be in this universe also A WHERE IS BLADE

  14. And some extra cruelty for you, DC has announced that finally the heroes of the Absolute Universe will unite next year in the aptly titled 'Absolute Justice'. But as for the subject of this video, while yeah the X-Men have done a lot with vampires before, this does kind of break-up the status quo of the X-Men. Rather than it just being mutants and humans it's now mutants vs. humans vs. vampires. vs. mutant-vampires. Like normally Stryker wouldn't give Nightcrawler the time of day but here they (at least to Stryker) are allied against a common threat and united in a common faith. Can't wait to see more of the 'Week of Doom'.

  15. I find this take on the X-Men story quite interesting. I’m super curious about Nightcrawler’s nuanced loyalties and Cyclops turning from the most idealistic mutant in the Xavier bunch to this beaten down. Midnight is shaping up to be something really fun!

  16. I'm gonna check out these Midnight comics, but I worry that Marvel looked at the Absolute comics and took "make it dark" from them. But making it dark is not the part that makes Absolute work, it's just the part that adds stakes and tension to the story.
