With incumbent Labour MP Duncan Webb retiring, Christchurch Central is up for grabs. New Labour candidate George Hampton, long-standing National candidate Dale Stephens, and Green MP Kahurangi Carter are all on a mission to convince voters that they’re up for the job.

Lefties in Auckland Central in 2020 and Wellington Central in 2023 were both told if they voted for Chloe and Tamatha they'd split the vote and let National won yet they pulled it off anyway, don't fall for Labour's scare tactics Chistchurch, two ticks Green! 💚💚
National held the seat in 2011 and 2014
im voting Green
Unfortunately, governments lead by either Labour or National are currently bound by the 1989 Public Finance Act (the 30/30 rule) and the Reserve Bank Act of the same year are no longer fit for purpose. Until these are dumped and replaced by legislation that IS suitable for the times, this country isn't going anywhere.
Wait until they see the results of our South Island Citizen's Referendum early next year.
Then they will know how badly they all went wrong.
Lowering taxes has never helped anything except the rich getting richer and the poor being worse off (via public services cuts and getting a pittance back for it). It's actually a lot like kicking a puppy.
He never really lived overseas, paid in a job that came from here or internationally. I lived 10 years in Europe and you recognised one important thing. Europe has a completely different economy of scale. We cannot command what Europe has. Secondly, there is some pressure on costs but not when TVNZ spends 10 minutes in the news on 4 big shows in Auckland with everybody paying huge sums in tickets and travel. This is not real hardship.
God said he is handing the nations over to me. Ive been writing 25 years / announced 911. Spoke on radio alive {full moon tonight after comments} God said if the people of NZ remain contempt then he will use Maori disgruntlement to take away the peace When I Leave the country the blood falls. Thats why all these AK47's are here, for a reason. My advice to people in the face of Gods Ruler is politicians are like kids with their set up cordial stand selling empty promises. Around the worl the best thing people can do is not to vote. Auckland local elections had 38% turn out. If this and lower is manifested across the nations in turmoil – the non voters clealr speak the loudest. If a county wants to say they are the legitimate government – yet they only had 38% vote. Then it says they are more crooks and frauds and the majority dont want them! This also means those who did vote can be classified as criminal by default. God said he is handing the nations over to me. From 1999I decided the path to go and it is a global Kingdom. This is not a head in the bucket {or sand tolerateble situation} – it is a global reality where nations need to be united under a single Kingdom that balances the scales and has the power and know how to do so. All the kids and all the cordial stands cannot put the biblical Babyon / Humpty Dumpty together again. Its time for change!
Sloppy journalism. It hasn't been held by Labour for 70 years. It wasn't even that long ago it was held by National. No mention of the redrawn boundaries, either. Do better.
i’m excited to vote greens in christchurch central, duncan webb was hopeless and i just can’t see the vision of the new lad
The Labour Party has not held Christchurch Central 70 years uninterrupted as implied by the journalist presenting the segment.
What was formerly a consistent Labour stronghold elected a National MP in 2011. The conservative MP that shattered that bulwark was re-elected in 2014, and while she never held the seat with more than a few thousand votes, the result belies the claim that Christchurch Central is a left-wing electorate.
Nevertheless, nothing is ever guaranteed and electorates change as the demographics and socioeconomic profile of its inhabitants shift with time.
Rebuild.. the nation paid for it….. Christchurch is a city that didn’t listen or prepare for the realities of its location… and the nation paid for it… were happy to…. But Christchurch is the miracle city that saved itself
Let’s go Labour.
The large parties are so out of touch with public needs the smaller parties can focus better.
Vote Labour, Greens or TPM to give gangs another bash at running NZ. Literally.
If you support National, ACT or NZF, please do this:
Vote for the National candidate and give your party vote to ACT or NZF. Irrespective of what electorate you're in.
There is no better way for you to maximise the number of Nat + ACT + NZF seats in parliament and counter the unfair advantage given to the left by the Maori electorate overhang seats. This election is too tight to do anything other than just maximise the chance of keeping the left out of power (i.e. Chloe as Finance Minister, Rawiri as Justice Minister, Oriini as Gang Coordination Minister, Willie as Co-Greatness Minister, etc).
This strategy works, at this election, because only National can generate extra seats on the right (called overhang seats). This is because of their historic hold on electorates and the fact that their party vote has now shrunk to the point that it entitles them to less seats than they actually win from electorates. There is no possibility of overhang seats for ACT or NZF, as they don't win enough electorates.
To put it another way, at this election, the almost one million party votes that National normally get will be completely wasted and will not return a single extra National MP to parliament. Giving those party votes instead to ACT or NZF will return more MPs for the right.
John Key thinks you're a bit thick and wants you to 'two-ticks National' as he is trying to save National as an old-time major party. That ship has sailed, for now. John wants to save National; the voting advice above is your best shot to save NZ.
Another Labour and Green wanna-bes being parachuted in – yawn!
Did they forget they had a National MP not that long ago?
Electorate vote national and party vote nzfirst or act 🫡 = landslide win 🥇
We really need ranked choice voting in the electorate so vote splitting isn't a thing.
