This bomber pilot can seal himself inside a capsule and keep flying the plane. Why build a cockpit inside a cockpit? The B-58 Hustler flew at twice the speed of sound, where an open ejection seat proved extremely dangerous. So the seat became a capsule: the harness and knee bars pull the pilot in, and clamshell doors close in about a quarter second. Its own oxygen pressurizes the shell, and a window and the control stick let the pilot fly down to safer air. Or he fires the rocket: the whole capsule leaves, drops under a parachute, lands on shock absorbers, or floats as a life raft.
Sources: National Museum of the US Air Force, fact sheet ‘B-58 Escape Capsule’ (Stanley Aircraft Corp. capsule retrofitted in late 1962; airtight clamshell doors; independent oxygen supply; the pilot’s capsule had the control stick to fly the aircraft to a lower altitude; parachute, shock absorbers, flotation cells as a life raft) and fact sheet ‘Convair B-58A Hustler’ (first flight 1956, maximum speed 1,325 mph, ceiling 64,800 ft); b-58.com, ‘Crew stations in the B-58’ and ‘Fuselage Structure and Crew Stations’ (three-piece telescoping clamshell door stowed above the head like a visor, closed in about a quarter second; knee bars; window in the door; closure starts the emergency oxygen and pressure; the trigger jettisons the hatch and fires the rocket catapult; crushable cylinders; flotation bags).
Illustrative 3D reconstruction of the Convair B-58A Hustler (bare-metal finish, USAF national insignia and lettering, no serial number) and a simplified Stanley capsule; the crew member wears 1960s-style flight gear and is faceless (visor down); the pilot station is cut away; the closing doors and the escape are slowed (the real doors closed in about a quarter second); the wind blast, the pressure glow, the oxygen bottle, the instrument panel, the cloud wisps and the afterburner glow are drawn; the capsule’s shape, parachute and cylinders are simplified — drawn, not simulated.

Quick question: at twice the speed of sound, would you rather seal yourself inside the capsule and keep flying, or eject in an open seat? 👇
What was the point? He would die anyway during a nuclear conflict,we all will. Goverment will keep on lying right to the end
My uncle ejected from a helicopter during the war of 1812 and the blades turned him into clam chowder
And it became obsolete right when it entered service lol
Why add safety seats to Bombers? Every bomber mission, kills people, destroys infrastructure, so why anyone would protect a killer? If he is ready to kill, he sould be ready to be killed
It's an airstream in an airstream.
They should make these for passenger planes.
A circle. Ever hold an object outside the car window or throw it out and feel how it feels?
And yet our cars suck all the products are junk all of our cities roads are garbage but let's do this
But airliner passenger seats are connected to a flimsily aluminum floor rail by 5/16" bolts … to facilitate the accordion effect upon impact with the ground following a long steep dive. And yet airline and aerospace CEOs and stock holders are never indicted for conspiracy to commit mass murder for profit by design.
If your going twice the speed of sound, your jet could end up breaking apart before you can even tuck your feet in. SR-71 pilots have described seeing their plane disintegrate around faster than they can think at supersonic speeds.
ai slop
Learn to model. these models are horrible
It's lined with explosives and he becomes a bomb. Very sad.
Unless u go rolling down the side of a mountain 😂
husser
Iirc the one time that this was used it chopped off the arm of the pilot….
FB111 is better
As a kid, I lived on an Air Force Base that was full of B – 58. I loved the sound of those planes warming up every morning.
stupid ai video would it beat husser po
