  1. Typical low-priority, heavy-lifting feature that's over-sold internally so that some Director or VP can get promoted and then ditch the boat with no accountability.

  2. The thumbnail a/b testing is crazy for me. I've experienced, as a viewer, the SAME video, but on multiple occassions the thumbnail is different. I would see one thumbnail, then the video with another thumbnail, then the video again with the first thumbnail. I'm like, "am I trippin"?

  3. There are types of videos where even a few percentage points of retention deliver a disproportionate level of impact – movie trailers, for example. This functionality will be hugely valluable to distributors and marketers pushing their trailers for film and video games.

  4. It is actually an extremely smart move by YouTube! It is not ss practical for a person at your level! You are at the very top of the YouTube creator economy, it's useless for you! It is extremely useful for those at the mid to lower tier! Extremely good feature!

  5. Спасибо за видео! Я искренне думал, что схожу с ума, когда видел в ленте одни и те же видео с разными обложками. Теперь понимаю, то это фича ютуба

  6. introducing effective gradient descent to videos will just result in homogenous slop. i want a unique intricate world full of niche rich communities and styles, not retention maxxers.

  7. Marques biggest mistake in judgement: "there are a lot of smart people at YouTube". One of these days he'll get a clue. There are NOT a lot of smart people at YouTube – but there are a lot of GREEDY people at YouTube.

  8. YouTube sucks. They demonetized all the First Amendment Auditors/Government accountability journalist. Yes, they can still work and upload videos but they can no longer get paid for their work. Even the big channels in the genre were wiped out. Feels like an attack on the first amendment to me, but since nobody can successfully sue YouTube, nothing is going to come of this, except a lot less government accountability and transparency. Screw YouTube.

  9. YouTube has been making all sorts of unnecessary changes. Like for some reason Chromecast has a harder time working on mobile devices for YouTube. Every time I cast one video to my TV and I'll either let it play through or pause it to watch another the next video that plays will play on my phone and not the TV. I've seen multiple people talking about this on Reddit so I know it's not just me.

  10. 90% of channels fail…mostly for lack of consistency. MK is is in the 10% and his opinion reflects a SUCCESSFUL channel that can aspire to tinker and literally not care about views every now and then. Many creators are in the phase where they are trying to find stable footing. MK has a team, some Tubers cant support themselves even with long held channels and any little tweak would help or might. Sorta like a millionaire telling a guy thats living in his car that has a flat…"Hey…since you need a tire, you should just replace all four…why not".

  11. Im not exactly sure of the reason for the playing videos automatically from the feed while I am scrolling, but i hated it and I found you can turn it off permanently

  12. A-B testing the video is a huge chunk of work for a small creator, but it's very easy if you just do AI slop anyway. I don't like where this is heading…
