instead of batteries (cause its expensive)
you can use a single battery thats will be a redstone block, about the connections between blocks, you can use golden or copper wire connections on all the block sides

This is insane work! Imagine taking this further with tiny NFC transceivers on all 6 faces so the blocks auto-detect their orientation, plus magnetic corners on the piston head. You could make it check if a block is actually attached before firing, so it acts 100% like game logic!
