Kids songs are a good way for a child to start to learn to read — and this one is set to a catchy rap tune, features lots of colorful pictures and has a simple rhyming pattern. It is also a good song to introduce the letter w for someone who is learning English.
The typical sound made by ‘w’, as heard in ‘west’ is simple enough — but ‘w’ is quite a tricky letter to read as it appears quite often as a silent letter and/or can cause a change in the way that a vowel coming before it is pronounced.
Lyrics:
W is for window — have a look outside
W is for water slide — so much fun to ride
W is for water — we need it to survive
W is for wheels — they help a car to drive
W is for wink — it’s when you shut one eye
W is for wings — they help a bird to fly
W is for west — the opposite of east
W is for waves — you catch them at the beach
W is for weather — is it cold or is it sunny?
W is for wallet — a place to keep your money
W is for Wednesday — in the middle of the week
W is for wool — have you ever shorn a sheep?
