  1. Software disabling precious battery capacity is an economic and ecological crime and should be banned. These types of “business decisions” are in the same family as “dieselgate” and how VW destroyed its own business. Locking battery capacity behind a paywall that should have been given to the buyer or used to make a car for others is morally offensive.

  3. Thank you for another excellent review Thomas & Leah.
    I currently have a '25 ID3 GTX Performance and very happy with it. This facelift adresses the areas for me personally in the redesign of the front bumper and the complete refresh of the interior, particularly around haptic buttons and the A/C accessibility. Will definitely look to get my 3rd VW EV when the ID3 GTI is launched in the Irish market.
    Looking forward to seeing your review on same, hopefully in the near future.

  4. I still hate how the fabric on the dashboard doesn't match the fabric on the seats or the door panels, it's just wrong. They need to fix that and then it's perfect. Or make it an option at least.

  5. I love your videos Thomas but your lack of EV knowledge is distracting. You recommended to buy the big battery for it to be a one vehicle and deemed the 58kw battery as a city only car. I have a 57kw Model Y and have traveled to every corner of Europe , 10,000km trips in under 7 days… small batteries in a well engineered EV are excellent and ideal. I hate this cheap low effort engineering trend to throw giant batteries at the range problem instead of actually engineering an efficient EV

  6. I agree that the ID3 has a big strength which is its big battery paired with good efficiency which gives it unbeatable range for a car in this segment. I believe only the recent Hyundais/Kias come anywhere close. If I wouldnt be going for the big battery, id be going ID Polo 100% though

  7. I had a laugh at the Travel assist view with hands on the wheel ! lol, that's not a proper travel assist test.

    I wish VW would build a proper normal car with proper ergonomic interior like the older cars , I don't want screens and tech and if I need navigation I'll use my phone.

    I would love a real nice looking Analogue instrument cluster.

    The climate controls still require too much fiddling around, no dedicated climate controls for air flow direction, still has to be controlled from the screen, this is unacceptable.

    I do like the buttons on the steering wheel and the 4 x Window switches.

    I do like the volume knob.

    However, for me, I'd still like the old skool radio controls, on/off button with 7 or 8 station presets because that's what I use in the car the most, and the climate of course.

    I don't think tech for the sake of tech is a good idea, I know the Chinese are seriously addicted to tech and their cars have to make the tea and clean the house etc but I don't think more and more tech in transport vehicles is good.

    I had the id3 Tour 5 77 Kwh here in Ireland, cost 41,000 Euros, hideous interior, disastrous infotainment and they VW did not install rear door speakers, the doors used to rattle with music. When it came time to trade in VW didn't want to know me and offered me nothing for the car, I ended up giving it back to VW finance under the half rule after 2.5 years on PCP contract, I said , never again.

    I continue to hear the stories about VW Ireland giving exceptionally poor trade in values and unless this changes I will never again touch another VW Electric car.

    The other issue is that the Id3 is a lot more expensive with less equipment than my 2021 Tour 5, whether this changes with the Neo I'd love to know.

    Here's an example.

    my 2021 84 Kwh cost 41,000 Euros, had matrix headlights, rear camera and travel assist, heated seats and heated steering wheel as standard and 204 Hp motor.

    The 2026 ID3 Neo, 40,000 Euros gives a useless 58 Kwh battery and only 190 Hp

    Travel assist now comes in a 2500 Euro "package " WTF VW, I mean, WTF ? this included the rear camera. I can't even find heated seats that isn't ina 450 euro package. I didn't even look into matrix headlights !

    I'm sorry VW but to me this is a massive failure, the cost is far too high , the equipment levels and motor power are diabolical vs the Gen I id.3. The charging speeds while improved are still not good enough in 2026, this should have had at least 200 Kw charging and a better charging curve. VW should move to 800 volts.

    VW needs to improve their shockingly low resale values or cut the cost of the car dramatically, the competition has a lot better to offer.

  8. Thomas! Hungary is in Europe since at least 1000. So MORE THAN a thousand years of statehood. BUT! WE had two lost war because of GERMANY in the XXth century! And we might get a new one because of german rusofobic. We were free before the election. Now we are again a part of the 4th German Empire, called Europian Union. Most of the people will realize soon it is not good for them again. So please take care of GERMANY first! As we hear it is not As good as should be, like: illegal migration, crime and violence, energy prices, deindustrialization, public debt, unemployment, tax burdens, armaments, no GDP growth, etc.
    On the other hand, we love the german cars! Not this one, but general…

  10. €45k for this kind of Golf-class car is a bold move.

    Sure, you might still sell it in Europe thanks to brand loyalty and legacy dealer networks.
    Chinese carmakers are going to wipe the floor with this. At that price point, the value proposition just doesn’t make sense anymore.

  11. Id.3 would sell double in Denmark if it had a real tow hook….Now VW customers are forced into the more expensive id.4 and that makes them go elsewhere.
    The drum brakes have a tendency to lock up after they have been in wet/moist environment….especially if the are not cleaned and lubricared recently.

  12. The primary challenge associated with electric vehicles is their weight. As long as current battery technology remains relatively heavy, both vehicles and their battery systems must be engineered to be as lightweight as possible.

    In this context, Volkswagen’s new ID. Polo represents a step in the right direction—at least until technologies such as solid-state batteries become commercially viable. There is limited justification for transporting large, heavy battery packs when smaller units can be recharged in approximately 20 minutes at charging stations along typical routes.

    Heavier vehicles contribute to increased road wear, while tyre and road-surface abrasion generates particulate emissions, including dust and microplastics. In addition, battery production requires extensive extraction of raw materials, placing further pressure on natural resources. Even deep-sea mining is being considered, despite its environmental impacts remaining insufficiently understood.

    Nevertheless, this issue receives relatively limited attention from the Green Party, which has played a key role in Norway’s electric vehicle transition.

    In the 1970s, many cars weighed less than one tonne. Today, some passenger vehicles approach three tonnes.

    If the objective is genuinely cleaner cities, reducing overall traffic volumes may ultimately be more effective than simply replacing every combustion-engine vehicle with a much heavier electric alternative. 

    Electric vehicles should be designed to be as light and efficient as possible. Models such as the VW ID. Polo—and others following a similar approach—point in the right direction.
