I gave up my Green Card because I decided I didn't want to live in the US after all, and getting it was a mistake. Once that was done, I went to the US Embassy for a visitor visa, but I got denied. The officer didn't even give me a reason—just handed me a slip citing 214(b). Apparently, they think I intend to immigrate illegally. This makes absolutely no sense. How can someone who voluntarily cancelled their Green Card be suspected of wanting to immigrate? Who would trade legal status for being undocumented? The US immigration system is a joke
