I loved fishing as a kid, but now I want to learn it as an adult! Join me for a solo fishing vlog in England at the coast in Whitstable. As a foreigner living in the UK, could this be a new hobby for me?? First we have to learn how to fish. Needless to say I have no idea what I’m doing… but we gotta start somewhere! Let’s fish, and then explore a coastal English town and generally hangout on a beautiful day.

Hey! I’m Alanna – a thirty-something documenting my life as a Canadian living in England.
I share the ups and downs of an expat living abroad and what it’s really like living in the UK. It’s not always easy, but there’s been so many wonderful experiences, too. I post a Youtube video every Tuesday plus an additional video every Saturday on Patreon + YT Memberships. I also livestream every Wednesday and Sunday at 5:30pm GMT/BST on Twitch.

Use bait on the bottom and wait for a bite while you read a book or something
That was a delightful video, and I would definitely watch more!
It reminded me that I meant to try watching a series on iPlayer with two national treasures (Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer), with Paul introducing Bob to fishing after heart issues. It's very wholesome and I think Alana might enjoy /get inspired by it! Called Gone Fishing. They even do a bit of beer tasting!
Hiya Alanna the shell looks like a Perriwinkle and for me fishing is about getting out and enjoying the peace and quiet and nature that is occasionally disrupted by actually catching a fish. All the best mate and tight lines for next time 🐚🐟.
'Jack Hargreaves' from the original children's tv show 'How', said in the 1960's "If a person catches a fish, on their first 'fishing trip' they're hooked for life. If they catch nothing, they may well be turned off fishing for life".
I thought 'Count Binface', was stalking you…
You don't need to let go with one hand while casting, hold the line with your index finger of your right hand and release it from the finger when you cast, the rod will be more secure with both hands on it and you can put more power into the cast.
I would definitely watch another fishing vid and see you improve.
I loved this video, Alanna! The blue sky and your amazing fishing adventure were perfect. Stop second guessing yourself, for goodness sake! You and your equipment were the best.
For bait, all you need is a collapsible shovel (or just a small gardening trowel), a container and a beach. There are plenty of worms under the wet sand.
Hi Alanna! I have no special knowledge to assist you in your piscine quest. I am aware that it is not unknown for certain anglers to actually resent it when they catch a fish, because it spoils an otherwise pleasant outing by the water. Perhaps that is the role model to which you should aspire? Bye!
Great fishing video Alanna keep them coming 😊👍🐟
Try fly fishing, it's inland, on a river, and not ''stocked'' fish.
Considering how windy it was that cameras excellent.
Hi alanna
Live all the different vlogs. I think it's great trying all these different things, would love more of these fishing videos.
I used to fish years ago, although it was always rivers/canals or lakes/ponds, never did sea fishing, I used to love it, I found it very relaxing and calming, even if I never caught anything. Hopefully you've found an enjoyable pastime !
A very enjoyable video, you are a very engaging and entertaining host 😊
Stunningly beautiful! Those legs! Give other women a chance Alanna!
Cracking video and I love a bit of fishing now and then. I never catch anything either when I go. Hope you are having a great summer and welcome home from Canada.
Also, if you want to get into fishing, scuba diving, surfing etc… Head over to Pembrokeshire, they have literally some of the most beautiful coastline in the WORLD! Seriously, voted second I believe! Ohh and Fish & Chips is always mandatory! lol.
I would say you should try lake and river fishing. But you won't find any… Seriously though I used to river fish at East Farleigh which is near Maidstone when I lived in Kent. I don't think is too far from where you are.
Short girls catch big fish! Or something similar……….. Now shush! Stop talking, more fishing….. Don't stop the reel spooling out, let it go as far as possible…. and the point is not really to catch anything….. just relax…..
15:42 – I'm a bad boy as when you said this, my mind immediately went to the second verse of the Katy Perry song California Gurls…
Perfectly acceptable video. Windy or not, the mic worked fine. You're a seasoned creator by now, you can carry it just with commentary.
The word is petite, not short.
She can play with my rod any time 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh, at Morecambe the tide goes out to 7.5 miles, it has some quicksand though so you shouldn't venture out too far. Also the tide comes back in quite quickly.
I don't fish, but if the wind was blowing into your face, fish off the other side of the pier and it'll be blowing into your back. Seems like common sense to me.
With any hobby, most people would be keen to help so no need to worry about people watching – go and make new friends 🙂
