  1. It's odd. As a native English speaker, when studying other languages, I don't really think of sounds that are made with an "R" letter, like the French "R", or sounds that are just called "R", like the Japanese "R" as actual Rs. They're just unique sounds that are called "R" for simple convention. The Japanese "R" however isn't an R at all. It's basically a tongue tap. The only sound that I consider an actual "R" is the rhodic R. The physicality of English R and L are worlds apart and have nothing to do with each other. Just as the Japanese R has nothing to do with the L or rhodic R of English. They're not even related.

I feel like to really improve pronunciation, it's important to conceptualize things properly first. Have an understanding that the sounds are completely unique, totally different sounds and using any other sound from your native language to "approximate" any sound in a 2nd language is simply not doing it.

Also, don't listen to the hype about us not being able to hear non-native sounds after a certain age and all that brain plasticity nonsense. Your ears can hear everything just fine. And your tongue, lips, and throat can make any sound you want! It's just a matter of time and practice!

  2. as korean I'm always confusing between L and R because our country we pronounce them the same way! I've learned a lot from your video thank you so much!

  3. i have a question please help. another channel called coachshanesesl teaching English said that to make the r sound, the tongue points at the front teeth. It isn't down and back like you said. So I'm still so confused could you explain ?

  4. ….. finally… i got the difference… i thought r was similar to l but the tip doesn't touch the roof…. but well… it's like being pulled back in mouth…
