Ike: Countdown To D-day

June 6, 1944. 150,000 soldiers, 5,000 ships and 11,000 airplanes. One man’s decision. The D-Day invasion – the largest military operation of World War II and the beginning of the end – marked Dwight Ike Eisenhower as one of America’s most powerful military leaders. IKE: COUNTDOWN TO D-DAY follows the 90 terrifying days leading up to the invasion as Eisenhower decides the fates of thousands of soldiers while managing complex strategic relationships with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, American General George S. Patton, Britain’s Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery and French President Charles de Gaulle. It was a time of no guarantees and certainly no second chances. In this climate, one man, Dwight Eisenhower, pulled the world’s leaders together for one of history’s most infamous battles. 1. The more we learn about Eisenhower the more people dislike him, he was a two faced liar, petty, vindictive and manipulator who ruined the careers of better soldiers, inthe US Army under Eisenhower you were much mote likely to fe fired fo competence rather than Incompetence. Eisenhower hated those that were more talented than what he was and that was most of the army.

  2. As a veteran, I appreciate that the actors were taught the proper way to conduct a salute. So often, actors totally get the salute wrong and it is irritating to see how disrespectful it looks. So, I am greatful that for this particular movie, both Tom and the other actor knew how to conduct a proper, professional U.S. Military salute.

  3. From watching this wonderful movie, I first realized that I was baptized on June 5, 1949, five years to the date after General Eisenhower met with the paratroopers before they left for Normandy.

  4. I caught myself getting emotional several times through this film. The history it goes over. The loss of life…
It was a different world then not just a different time. Our current govn't is a dark stain on History in comparison.

  5. Eisenhower was wrong about one thing….we did see their like again. I know I did…I saw them in Fallujah; Ramadi; Helmand Province; and the Korengal Valley.

  6. This is revisionist garbage. Denigrating Patton’s contribution when he was actually critical in winning in Africa and the whole damn ground war is bad enough, but the snide comment that he had some pretend command is unforgivable.
Acting like he was a sniveling weasel is
disgusting disappointing drivel from Selleck. This is not history and these sanctimonious lectures are hollow and boring when you give all credit to politicians like Ike and take all credit from hard men like Patton who actually won the war. Patton also warned about Stalin’s intentions and he was right. Ike was wrong.

  7. I did not like the way they portrayed Patton. A soft paunchy unimpressive unintelligent individual. The Real Patton was the opposite, he was the ultimate WWII warrior.

  8. IT’S SAD WATCHING WHAT GREAT BRITAIN ONCE WAS AND WHAT THE WOKE LEFT AND THEIR IMMIGRATION HAS DONE TO THE UK, THESE PEOPLE HAVE ALLOWED UNFETTERED IMMIGRATION OF PEOPLE WHO HATE EUROPEAN CULTURE & CHRISTIANITY THEY HAVE RENDERED EUROPE UNRECOGNIZABLE FROM WHAT IT WAS.

  9. I liked it a lot, but the portrayal of DeGaulle as a little old man is very inaccurate. He was 6'5" and similar in age compared to the other commanders (born in 1890).

  10. Notable are these facts about the funeral of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1969, given the backdrop of this movie.
President Charles de Gaulle of France attended both the state and religious fineral services for President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Prime Minister Harold Wilson of the UK did not attend President Eisenhower's funeral. Neither did any immediate member of the British Royal family. Not the Queen, nor Prince Philip, nor Prince Charles. Lord Mountbatten "represented" the Queen at President Eisenhower's funeral.

  11. "We may never see their like again."

We Gen Xers like to sound off about how tough we are. We're not even a moon cast shadow of the Greatest Generation. My Grandfather's generation.

  12. It was an excellent movie makes you proud to be an American. I wish we had strong, courageous men to stand up for what is wrong in our country right now and stand by our constitution. My dad fought in World War II and sadly he never really talked about it. I know he was in the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate one concentration camp, and then he was preparing for the invasion of Japan and the nuclear bombs were dropped. I hope he knows that I am very proud of him. We used to argue about Japan dropping the bombs on them as I’ve gotten older. I’m actually 67. It probably was the right thing to do because I’m remember my dad saying they didn’t expect only a fourth of the men to survive the invasion. I don’t know what he saw, but it was something you could never talk about when I backpacked through Germany I said to him we came in on the river Rhien cruse, I don’t know what all the lights were for miles and miles. He started chuckle and he said it’s the Ford factory. We crossed that damn river at night and it was cold and our duty was to take the factory. That’s all I ever told Me except in the Battle of the bulge. They were so cold in the Belgium. People brought them hot soup risking their lives to bring food to them. I decided to watch this movie tonight July 3 right before our 250th anniversary. We should be proud of everything we did in World War II with NATO protecting our allies in our allies is coming to our aid after 911. We need to get back to that area being a leaderand the rest of the country looking up to us for leadership. Whoever the next president is is going to have a lot to repair.

  13. Tom Selleck should have received a Emmy for his performance.
Eisenhower should be given more credit for keeping the allies together working with big egos like Montgomery,Patton, Churchill DeGaulle, and the pressure from Roosevelt..

  14. "We have to do more than liberate Europe. We have to save it." Just hits perfectly. It's not just about going after and defeating the "bad guy", it's about standing between them and whoever can't stand by or for themselves. This is becoming relevant again today.
