The implant is initially placed into your jawbone just below the gum tissue, then the gum tissue is stitched up while a healing collar is left in place. As the gum tissue heals, the implant bonds with the bone and securely attaches itself. After your tissue has healed, the healing collar is removed, and the abutment is then attached. I’m going through the process right now for two, just waiting on my crowns. Had to have bone grafting done last summer (I got 5 bone grafts for teeth that were also pulled but no implants to help scaffold my existing teeth), that was 5 grand. Then the two implants were 5 grand. Now the crowns and abutments are also 5 grand. Fucking out of control but it’s so worth it over losing my jawbone and normal function
The sketchiest part is when they do the last few turns to torque it down.

I had to have 3 implants over 15,000 dollars, is a luxury to have teeth but so necessary. Without teeth you can’t chew your food properly and have a good digestion. So dental insurance should have better coverage. It’s a nightmare.
