The City of Elk Grove passed a new e-bike safety ordinance during last night’s city council meeting. The change which, many in the community have been calling for, is aimed at reducing dangerous incidents as e-bike and e-scooter use continues to skyrocket.

I live in a small town and its so annoying how many little kids ride these e-bikes and e-scooters like little jerks. Blatant disregard for all forms of traffic. Because you know, they're still dang kids.

One thing that really bothers me the most is I've seen a lot of kids riding their e-bikes on the bike lane but on the opposite side of the road (going against traffic). As a driver, if your pulling out to an intersection, you're instinct is to mostly look left before turning right as that's the direction traffic should be coming from. If you're not looking right and someone is riding the opposite direction on the bike lane, they will get easily hit. I blame it on the parents for not teaching their kids traffic rules and what's right and wrong when riding out in public. We have teenage kids that ride bikes (regular type, not electric) and we go through the extra effort to teach them how to ride safely and to follow the rules.

What nobody is talking about is the danger these batteries have in your homes. The size of lithium battery in an e-bike can kill you from across your home very quickly from carbon monoxide or even hydrogen flouride. Nobody is aware of the risk of these types of batteries if they go into thermal runaway and we're at a point where there's MANY lithium batteries in every home.
This about taxing e-bikes , not safety.
If you don't know how to ride a bike you shouldn't even have one
so 0 deaths and they wanna force new rules. Riding on a sidewalk is way more safe than on a road, not all roads have a bike lane.
So let me get this correct. City counsel or legislatures passes ordinances or laws to combat ebike saftey, but no city across the country does nothing with ATV and dirt bike street takeovers. In fact, most municipalities have a no chase policy for those individuals. So in short, I see nothing but government overreach to target the citizens they know that will comply if they flash their lights cuz someone is doing 25MPH in a bike lane or street curb… haha, gotta love it, huh????

The e-bike standard used across the USA was developed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which established regulations for electric bicycles to ensure safety and consistency. This standard categorizes e-bikes into three classes based on their speed and the type of assistance they provide. The e-bike standard needs to be abandoned and e-things should fall under the regualtion of their gas counterparts.
Way more major injuries involving car crashes but nobody talks about that. Lowering gas prices was also long overdue! Those that can afford insurance for driving on the highway shouldn't be concerned. You should be more concerned about uninsured drivers causing hit and runs because they can't afford to pay their bills

Public roads have been engineered for decades strictly to accommodate heavy, multi-ton automobiles. A simple line of paint on the asphalt, mimicking a bike lane, offers zero physical protection from dense traffic and distracted drivers. The risk of getting into a catastrophic collision on the road multiplies significantly, which is especially terrifying for teenagers and school children.Even the supposed third alternative—dedicated park bike paths—has become an illusion of safety. Instead of serving as fast, transit corridors for commuter traffic, these lanes are heavily occupied by slow-moving pedestrians, families with strollers, and dog walkers. E-bike owners are once again forced to slam on their brakes, navigate tight spaces, and face public shaming just for existing.Instead of building a fully integrated, physically protected third infrastructure, cities are choosing the path of restriction. By banning or heavily limiting movement on sidewalks, roads, and parks simultaneously, authorities shift the entire burden of safety onto the riders themselves, leaving them stranded and exposed to dangerous car traffic.
Maybe parents need to stop buying their kids e-motos (electric motorcycles ) and them calling it a ebike riding it 60mph swerving all over the place acting like maniacs.
