officials worried tourists might not know they were entering the gaslamp area ?
You don’t think the city knew,,, they took the money
Joker Cringe Jumpscare Warning
My question is, did the city check to see if Marvel accuired permits to hang that sign to promote Doomsday before they started demanding to take it down and dishing out the fines.
I love them showing a random Joker clip while quoting the Spider-Man line and talking about Avengers, classic news haha
That's a parking ticket for them.😂
How did it go from $10K to 160K. Lol. California is retarded.
Disneyland alone makes between $10M to $15M daily. $160k in fines across 6 days is $60M in Disneyland revenue alone. Not to mention that this was before Spider-Man released to an almost $1B opening weekend. Doomsday will surely surpass what Endgame did at the Box Office. This is a water molecule in the grand scheme of things for Disney.
marvel studios knew EXACTLY what they were doing and planned for the fines as part of their marketing budget…believe me, marvel studios makes 160K every hour
Come on this banner sign was so awesome for comic con what a bunch of haters
Genius by Marvel. The fine is cheaper than paying for ad space would be
Daddy Gloria needs his bicycle lane money. 😂
That fine is equivalent to change found in your sofa to Marvel LoL.
The city could use the money.
Totally irresponsible for Marvel to do this. That sign is the most iconic in the city.
Ummm… I’m not against the fine, but if the daily ~LIMIT~ of the fines was raised to $10,000…
Let’s see… 6 days… $10,000/day maximum fine… carry the 1… account for the wind speed velocity of an unladen swallow (turns out it’s the same for African and European swallows)
That should come out to… 🧮…
$60,000 total
Not sure how they were being fined $20k, 30k, $40k and $50k when each of those days could only max out at $10,000…
Again, absolutely fine them if they broke code rules, but someone had to have given the OK to put up a custom made display like that in the first place, so I expect this might get challenged
But $60k should be the amount; that extra $100k doesn’t math according to the newly set daily limit on fine amounts
I hate the ppl in my city. Yall make SD look so lame sometimes
Must be nice to burn off $160,000
Another chicken sh-t grift by the city. Maybe Mayor Gloria can use the money to open the public restrooms at the beach.
Greasy Todd was looking to make up for lost Balboa Park parking money
Man my home town is really making me laugh😂❤
Ha ha ha jokes on marvel sd just bought them 👌 😂
so they really want to run comic con out of San Diego
Who's the Commie in purple? Sounds like Bernie! hahahahahaa "Fair Share guy"
Maybe the Mayor can use that money top open up restroooms in Mission Bay?
'Illegal" signs? "Illegal" Immigration? I know what's worse.
How was that the sign was even allowed to go up in the first place? So the studio is gonna just randomly make a sign that perfectly fits the Gaslamp sign and hire a contractor to put it up without the city's knowledge or approval? It doesn't make any sense.
This is manipulation of the Streisand Effect for marketing. 🙄 The media attention just amplified their message certainly more than the initial fee and much more than the $160,000. 🤦🏿♂️ San Diego should have just approved the sign upfront.
Takes .money to make money
When you have money you just say F the rules lol
Comic con needs to move out of San Diego. At least to a bigger housing venue.
Uh oh 😮
So no law was broken but the city needed legal money somehow. Oh well.
God forbid we advertise one of the biggest tourist events in the city.
And the fine money will go where ?
Marvel is worth 53-55 billion, $160,000 fine to them is less than a $55 dollar street sweeping parking ticket is to me
$160,000 fine is pocket change for Marvel 🤣
This is nothing new and big studio have done this year after year. City dont care as they pocket the fines.
Fake news. It’s the installer, Elevue Outdoors that’s being fined. Not Marvel.
If the city cared, they would’ve done more than just fines. The city let it slide so it can extract “fine money” daily 🤷🏼♂️
If was comic con. I would increase ticket price and foward it to the customers. To pay back the fee
Looks cool
