Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I’m your host Paul and this video we’re breaking down The X-files.

We are now at Season 4 and this is one of the shows most ambitious and emotionally changed outings. Airing on Fox on the 4th of October 1996, it ran until the 18th of May 1997. Clocking in at 24 episodes it continued the golden age that was started with Season 3. The Season actually peaked with 29 million viewers which came with the episode Leonard Betts. That was an entry in which Scully was diagnosed with Cancer and these plot lines made the show become an absolute phenomenon.

Remember when they released the 12 files on VHS starting with the Unopened File, Tombs, 82517 etc and sometimes you got the follow up episodes early.

The chupacabra episode is supposed to be like a telenovela! That's why it's so funny. It's making fun of itself. It's my favorite episode ever! There are also some social issues that it confronts in a great way.
I kept waiting for mention of the link between Roy Thinnes and The Invaders – the ultimate irony of him playing an alien. Was this one of the things that had to be cut for time?
Dude. No bullshit, ER is amazing. If you watch the whole thing from start to finish, it will change you. Just sayin. Side note, Scrubs is fuggin amazing(exceptforthelastcoupleseasons). Fight me.

I find it interesting that the Vietnam vet episode also can serve as a metaphor for how these guys became "invisible" to the society and the government after the end of the war. In a time where the country just wanted to forget, they were a constant reminder. This (together with PSTD, of course) led to ostracism and depression, with many guys taking their own lives.

I can tell you 100% honestly, I was 15 when Home dropped the one and only time it was allowed to air. As a massive fan already at that point and being huge into horror, that episode absolutely messed me up, especially on a Sunday night right before bedtime. It's still my favorite episode ever.

I gave this show a try when it Premiered but I couldn't get into it. I'm really not a fan of this but I do LOVE that episode called Home. It's the only episode I like from this and it's one of my all time favourite episode of TV.

Yeah, season 4, I believe, is kind of a prototypical season of TV for some of the great stuff that came out over the couple decades after its run.
The music in "The Field Where I died" really puts the cherry on top in that episode. That one actually stuck in my brain.
Dude this guy doesn't know shit about Waco. He speaks about the BD's like they for sure had weapons and explosives. Which were not recovered.
In the US, domestic flights had banned smoking by 1994. International flights still had small smoking sections all the way in the back. I flew a Delta Lockheed L-1011 Tristar to France and back in 1994 and that was the last time I was able to use the little armrest ashtrays on any flight ever.
I watched "That is Home" live when it first ran. I understand why it was left off subsequent airings, it was that disturbing and memorable.

I'm glad you liked The Field Where I Died. I love that episode, it's so powerful and tragic but is also a beautiful love letter. I think too many fans hate on it because it says 'oh but Mulder and Scully aren't soulmates' but personally I don't think it's saying that at all. It's saying that at no point in history has Mulder and Melissa ever worked, they're too tragic and the universe doesn't want them to be together. With Mulder choosing a different path (with Scully) the universe is righting itself and changing it for the better for everyone.
