I Showed Kennedy At The NSBA World Show

Five years in the broodmare pasture made this NSBA World Show moment with Kennedy even sweeter. 🐴💕

In this horse show video, I’m back in the arena with VS The First Lady, and despite all my nerves, we finished fifth in Novice Amateur Western Pleasure and tenth in an incredibly competitive Amateur Western Pleasure class! These were some of my softest, best rides with her, and earning NSBA World Show placings in western pleasure feels like a dream.

We’re also following Denver, aka First Thingz First, into the Performance Halter Stallions class, talking honestly about why we decided he wasn’t ready for his riding classes, and sharing an important lesson we learned along the way. Plus, Ethel helps keep Kennedy prepared through ponying, we watch the exciting Cinch Horsemanship Challenge, and I show you how I make my horse show makeup survive 107-degree heat. ✨

This show reminded me just how special Kennedy is and how grateful I am for the trainers, friends, family, and horses who make these moments possible. We may be finished showing here, but Kennedy and I still have more goals ahead!

Let me know in the comments what you thought of this behind-the-scenes look at the NSBA World Show and what you’d like to see more of in the future!

  1. I got ready one time sitting in an airport. This one woman stared at me the entire time when I was putting on my makeup giving me looks like…..”are you kidding me”. So rude!! You do what you gotta do.

  2. I love all the horses, they are all special. I can't wait to see Wally show. There is just something about him that makes me think he could end up being as big as "Code Red" I used his official title because I think Wally has the same potential.

  3. I used to be a dressage rider in my younger years. I had to give up riding when I started my family in my early 20's.
I am learning so much on western style from you. I love the lesson videos and your talks before and after showtime.
You did awesome! Great shows. I am looking forward to your equestrian adventures. I truly appreciate how you pay attention to each horse and their specific needs.

  4. You make the Best Videos ever. Some of us have never seen or been to an actual High Level Horse Show or knows the in or outs of the show world 🤚🏻 me mainly. I learn so much thank you so much for your time.

  5. I hate watching the clases
    . I see s horse almost
going to break at the jog anf i start putting leg on. Or any little thing. When my daughter was showing .A wonderfull old judge told us it is not how fast you you change a gait its how clean you do it
Always look over nack so you don't cut someone off. Plus ot gives uou a second to see who's looking.

  6. The thing is that you made a mistake and I bet you have learned from it. I breed and show German Shepherds, I entered my first obedience trial at our national show a few years back. My dog and I did great, get to the end and I was so happy/excited to be done i exited the ring on the wrong side of the finish sign. It cost me a bunch of points which caused me to lose my qualification score. I was so disappointed but at the end of the day it was a mistake and i learned from it and i bet i never make the same mistake again

  7. As you and Kennedy rode under the sign of VS Code Blue (her uncle) made me interested to see her grandmother. “VS the First Lady” does look a lot like “Vital Signs are Good”. Kennedy is one of my favorite characters.

  8. I have to say for you to do what was best for Denver is great. I like seeing that you held him back to not show. And you learned something as well. He is still a champion horse regardless. Hard decisions is always stressful.

  9. I 100% agree, why? I could NEVER do that to Kennedy for a dang horse show. Dumbest💩 ever!! The judges can walk their butts up to her and move her mane if they need to see more of her neck!!! It completely destroyed her look and not for the better IMO. Oh well, too late now. It will be back in a couple of years unless it continues getting cut.

  10. May I suggest that you keep your microphone pinned to your lapel or the collar of your t-shirt? When the microphone comes too close to your mouth, your voice becomes very sharp, and it catches your breathing. It sounds so nice, when it’s in below your chin.

I’m sorry, that you had to give up Denver’s reserve title. He’s going to reclaim it next time!

  11. You made the right decisions Katie. You’re thinking what is best for the horse. Just know, you sharing all of your love 💕 for Hollywood, Penelope, Kennedy and Ethel speaks volumes. It’s amazing how good all of them look! Kennedy and you did phenomenal. Hard to believe how far she has come. I just know she’ll get better and for someone who has been out of showing for years, to this novice eye you look great. As always, thank you for sharing you and yours journeys, and for being a great educator. Best wishes. 😊❤
