Following the 1940 campaign, the German army captured and mass-adopted the French Panhard 178 armored car, designating it the Panzerspähwagen P204 (f). Weighing 8 tons and featuring 20mm armor, its most unique engineering trait was a dual-steering system with front and rear drivers, allowing for immediate retreats from tactical encounters without turning around.
German engineers further adapted these 4×4 vehicles for their own needs, converting over 40 units into steel-wheeled railway cruisers to patrol tracks, and later upgrading others with powerful 50mm guns.

ONE(!) of the factors contributing to Germany's ultimate defeat in the Soviet Union was the use of too many different types of captured vehicles, which would break down due to a lack of spare parts even after sustaining minor damage.
