Join me for a focused Study with Heather practice session exploring two-octave C major scales in varying positions.
Rather than always practicing a scale with the same fingering in the same position, we’ll move C major through different areas of the fingerboard. This is excellent work for developing familiarity with positions, strengthening intonation, improving shifting, and learning to see the fingerboard as a whole rather than as a collection of isolated positions.

Bring your violin and practice along with me. The goal isn’t simply to play the C major scale correctly—it’s to become increasingly comfortable navigating the violin in different positions.
Study with purpose. Play with passion.

🎻 I’m curious: when you practice scales, what are you actually listening for?
For me, this month has been all about C major—intonation, intervals, finger patterns, shifting, and really listening to how each pitch relates to the next.
Tell me what you’re working on in your own practice right now. I’d love for *Study with Heather* to become a place where we can share what we’re studying together.
I spend at least 45 mins everyday playing scales, They are so important for everything, I put on a drone in the key Im playing and play each note precisely working on intonation and good hand frame, I find by playing scales as much as learning peices , your playing gets better, why?, all peices are scales!!!
"Great video, Heather! Your explanations of the different positions make scales so much easier to understand. Thanks for sharing! 🎻✨"
