$100M for Racial Segregation? The UTS College Debacle

UTS just mothballed its $100M “First Nations College” mid-tender. Pledged $10M by Woolworths and $1M from Sydney ratepayers, but financial reality finally hit. You don’t close the gap by dividing students by bloodline or bringing back race-based favouritism.

If I told you that an Australian university was building a brand-new residential college with a focus on white students, what would you think?

When you enter the dining hall, the majority of students will be white. The social events? Mostly white. Your mentors? Exclusively white. The art on the college’s walls? Solely Caucasian artists. And this white majority will be strictly enforced by the university by verifying everyone’s race upon application.

It sounds like something straight out of the 1920s, right?

Well, this exact same blueprint was planned by the University of Technology Sydney for Indigenous students.

In 2018, SBS declared: “A Sydney university will open the country’s first Indigenous residential college,” noting that the college will “house 250 beds for Indigenous – and some non-Indigenous – students.”

Some non-Indigenous students? I guess that’s their legal loophole for dodging anti-discrimination laws. I wonder who gets to play the token non-Indigenous spot—probably a full-fee-paying international student from Mumbai.

They note that the college will also provide full scholarships and “cost-covered accommodation for Indigenous students” while also “celebrating Indigenous culture through public spaces devoted to events.” So basically, Indigenous students get free accommodation, while presumably our friend from Mumbai has to pay full price.

In 2021, the ABC joined the cheerleading squad, justifying the $100-million proposal: “‘The gaps aren’t closing’: How an Indigenous residential college in Sydney is set to break down barriers.” They noted that the college will also welcome “some non-Indigenous students, including international students, from First Nations communities in other parts of the world.”

So perhaps our candidate from Mumbai isn’t First Nations enough to qualify for a room. Guess he’ll be replaced by a Cherokee exchange student from North America.

Sometime in 2023, Woolworths—the “Fresh Food People” and Australia’s largest supermarket chain—went woke. Rather than reducing prices to help struggling Australians during a cost-of-living crisis, they instead found a fresh new way to blow shareholder cash, declaring on their website: “Woolworths Group pledges $10 million towards a national First Nations College with UTS.”

So while everyday shoppers get price-gouged on groceries, Indigenous students at the college will presumably get a 10% discount on everyday items at the campus Woolies, or maybe an exclusive fast-track lane at the self-checkout.

By the end of 2023, the designs had been chosen, as reported by Architecture AU: “Winning design for Australia’s first Indigenous residential college revealed.” Here’s the winning team’s design. It has been lauded for its “connection to Country,” allowing for “informal gatherings, cultural events and smoking ceremonies,” and designed to “support a new generation of Indigenous leaders to build culture, community and pride.”

I know, it’s beautiful. I wish I could live there for free, but I can’t because apparently, I don’t have the right ancestry. But wait, I forgot—a few lucky non-Indigenous students get to live there too! Maybe I’ll get drawn from the diversity lottery and score a room right next to our Cherokee exchange student.

But the real reason I can’t go to Australia’s first Indigenous residential college isn’t because of my ancestry—it’s because the whole $100-million project has been mothballed. As reported by the AFR just recently: “UTS halts $100m Indigenous student residence project mid-tender.”

Call it a rare moment of common sense, call it a sudden outbreak of financial reality, but the Indigenous college hasn’t been built—and it may never be built. The article notes that while the project secured $10 million from the NSW government, another $10 million from Woolworths, and $1 million from the City of Sydney (thank you ratepayers), it ran headfirst into broader economic pressures, with “soaring construction costs and interest rates at 15-year highs” putting the squeeze on commercial projects everywhere. Though interestingly, the AFR added that “demand for the residential college from Indigenous students, whose fees were guaranteed by the federal government, was not a concern.”

So there you go. Australia’s premier attempt at a university college that divides students up by bloodline is currently on ice. Perhaps UTS should take this opportunity to reconsider whether this is really the path forward in modern Australia—because you don’t close the gap by building walls between people, and you certainly don’t fix inequality by bringing back race-based, corporate-funded favouritism.

  1. If you've seen what the traditional custodians of the land do to government provided housing, you'd be on SportsBet placing a bet that the school wouldn't last a whole school year before it burned down or had to be condemned. Also the beginning of the video looked amazing, where do I enroll?

  2. What courses are they going to teach? "Welcome to country- how to maximise profit'. 'Victimhood and how to exploit it.' 'Rewriting history and erasing inconvenient facts'. 'Sticks- how to throw them and bang them together'. 'Decolonising the wheel.' 'Rights without responsibility- how to trade in one-sided coins'. 'Land grab 101, how to pick the richest real estate'. 'Conservation and why it doesn't apply to you.' 'Domestic violence and how to blame the white man.'
'First nations archaeology- how to make the evidence fit the claims.'

  3. Shocking how Marxists Labor-Greens (MsLG)🏳️‍🌈 corrupted, criminal, terrorist, shit government, is defecating in their statements of duties, constitution. Unashamedly they favour minorities protected species, with the Communist UN rubbish scheme DEI, so they mistreat & relegate, 90% of Aussies, misuses taxpayers money, in this unbearable, criminals, racists schemes & worse with the previous, this terrorists have the indecency to shout to the world that conservatives ultra right wing supremacists Trumpist, despicable people cannot govern. One Nation its fascist, racists, divisive, an untenable bunch of fools who are a risk for democracy & society. So with the previous, this MsLG 🏳️‍🌈 Antifa foot soldiers criminals when go rioting weekly now “Queers with Palestine, from the river to the sea”, meaning exterminate the Jews, are calling as well for One Nation being declared unconstitutional & Pauline Hanson be eliminated. Charming how MsLG 🏳️‍🌈 follows communist Saul Alinsky book, Rules for Radicals Revolutionary (1960 dedicated to Lucifer), to champion Projection, which is the evil, coward psychological action of blaming Conservatives of all Marxists f*k ups, to Muddy the Waters. Unbelievable, & this loving shit political evil religion, Marxism, since regurgitated by a revolutionary criminal, Lenin, in 1917, has killed more than 500 million people & they call themselves the saviours of humanity. 🤔🙈🥵🤧🤣😂😂😂😂🤬🤬🤷‍♂️

  4. My first question would be "What courses will they be teaching?" but despite all the feelgood BS about "closing the gap", the reality is that the "gap" will not begin to close until aborigines decide they want it to close and are willing to put the work into making it happen.

  5. Given that Australian Universities have already tapped out school leavers, mature age students, overseas students, and tax payer funded HEX debtors. The next potential avenue for increasing cash flow is more Close the Gap funding. In this instance to expand the Aboriginal industry and get taxpayers to fund indigenous student living and accomodation expense in addition to their already free tuition. Watch Albo and his mates jump on this band wagon like flys on shit.

  6. Yay, we were getting closer to being colour blind; shame we are now going backwards.

32-year-old Afghan who touched a 13-year-old boy inappropriately on a Sydney bus has been spared deportation because he would face "difficulties" if he loses his visa and has shown "deep remorse".

Was given less than 2 years behind bars, then released as a guest in our country.

  7. Aboriginals have a deep distrust of all institutions that aren't theirs (i.e. all of them). So this probably won't work. They have access to everything for free thanks to my tax dollars, but choose nothing. So my tax dollars are being pissed up against the wall for nothing. I would love to deal with the real perpetrators violently and harshly. Isn't anyone else sick of this fucking bullshit? Albo would be first on the literal chopping block. I think we would all LUUUUURRRVE to see that, except left wing, brainless cunts.

  8. Every White person in the country could march themselves down to the sea and drown themselves tomorrow; it still wouldn't be enough.
The academics and Grievance Industry Gurus would still shrill: ''But what about compensation!?! Compensation!!!''

  9. None of the international indigenous students will be of European descent. I have noticed that whites seem to be the only people without indigenous rights. So it's simple apartheid, we're going backwards.

  10. The gap isn't disappearing because they keep giving money to inner city people whilst all the poor outcomes are in remote communities. It's like if you kept increasing the welfare budget for people over 50 and wondered why there's such high youth unemployment
