4 ways to treat a UTI, cystitis, burning pee

Does it burn when you pee? You might have cystitis, a type of urinary tract infection (UTI).

Here are 4 ways to help treat it:
1. Drink more water, but avoid coffee, alcohol, fruit juice and sugary drinks
2. Takea painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen to reduce pain
3. Get a powder or liquid with potassium citrate or sodium citrate from the pharmacy to make your pee less acidic, so it hurts less when you pee. Mix the powder or liquid with water and drink the mixture every 8 hours for 2 days.
4. Get a prescription from your doctor for antibiotics, such as nitrofurantoin, trimethoprim, or cefalexin

Always speak to your pharmacist or doctor for advice if you think you have cystitis or a UTI.

  1. Hi dear mam I am suffering from uti for last 5 years in which I have burning sensation and pretty much yellow discharge and some times light yellow discharge u know mam I had taken so many antibiotics to cure it but it didn't bring any change to my illness you know mam mostly i drink 4 litre water every single day and I have always less quantity of oil in my food so I want you to tell me what's the reason behind it

  2. I am a male of 28 years. i have no uti. Prostates normal in size. Bladder, kidney okay. Blood sugar slightly over normal after 2 hours of glucose intake. It doesn't burn during peeing. But I feel mostly itchy ar sometimes mild burning or or irritation.

  3. The other day after I got back from my daughter‘s OB appointment I use the toilet and saw all this blood. Yes, I’ve had urinary urgency since the time I was very young. I had no burning just kind of a dull vague ache in my groin every time I emptied. I am post menopause so it wasn’t menstruation and I had had a hysterectomy when I was 45 it kind of freaked me out cause I never had a bladder infection in my life and I am going on 65. My analysis came out bacteria in my urine but no blood so that was great news. They say a lot of elderly get misdiagnosed with a bladder infection when it is totally something else.
