  1. I hope Ghiulyette doesn’t want to become a nurse. Yikes! As someone who has to call critical values to nurses, I need the nurse’s first and last name for proper documentation. Spelled exactly right. She’d be spelling her name all day long lol NTA

  2. Glad to know I wasn't the only one upset by the reaction in the first story.

They have valid points in that society and the bullying culture in school is the problem, not trying to be unique. But to intentionally put your child into that situation WILL fuck them up and parents SHOULD be called out on doing thigns that can put their child into underserved stressful situations.

I think the issue is primarily them treating this as if its like 'oh but other nations and cultures spell things differently'. But like… This isn't that. This is distinctly a parent trying to feel special, and using their kid as a springboard for it.

  3. I know that some Countries have laws that prevent parents from naming their child like that, and i think thats the way it should be, the kids dont have a say in their parents naming them so they should at least have some kind of protection from names that are like cancerous versions of the original spelling

  4. Wow, Arasha was super tone def. Her name is so easy to spell and pronounce. Ghulyiette is an insane name. Forget bullying, doing government forms is going to be so hard for that kid. And Arasha was so mad when people with actual experience in this disagreed with her. She was visibly angry about being wrong and then mansplained what normal means.

  5. Cook filipino adobo… 1kg pork/chicken lots of garlic 2 whole bulbs of garlic, 2 onions, 1 cup soysauce, 1/2 cup white vinegar, 3tbsp oil, black pepper.. no water, no salt! Mix then start cooking, cook until the sauce starts to oil… enjoy! Easiest thing to cook and soooo tasty!

  6. for the hamilton story, i feel so bad that the story jen is told is gonna be “well she offered the tickets and then took them back and then dumped your brother.” i can only hope she sees the reddit post or maybe talks to one of her friends about it who has seen the post and can clear things up. poor jen

  7. Man, the story about the guy who gave away his GF's tickets illustrates perfectly how disconnected and entitled Rich people are.
If these were my parents and sibling, I wouldn't want to talk to them either.. The Daughter might have a good reason to distance herself from them.

  8. I totally disagree with you on the first story. The opinion may not be asked for, but OP was severly worried about the childs well being. If the well being of a child is in question every opinion should be voiced and heard. The parents can always dismiss it.
In general I don't like the concept of "your opinion was not asked" if it involves a good friend. In reverse, that would mean to let your friends walk into disaster or you are always the asshole.

  9. A big problem with the the name that they didn't discuss is that, despite the spelling (which by definition is abnormal) the name itself is to distinctly iconic. There's no way she making it to adulthood without someone bullying her for it.

  10. 10:05 i get whwt the ladies in this video are saying. She is an outside party, she wasn't asked, the spelling and name isn't the worst so it may not be so bad in this situation, people can change theie names later, etc. But i agree more with reddit on this one. Many many kids have a lot of serious issues with having "unique" names or spellings. The OP had good intent because she knows the potential troubles the name could bring, but she definitely could have handled it a lot better than saying it would fuck up the kid's life. She could have said she had concerns and was worried the child could have difficulties that outwwigh the parents' need to have their kid have a unique name. She wants to eliminate as many opportunities for shitty kids to bully the girl in the future, but ended up sounding like a bully in the process. Is an asahole for overstepping, continuing to reach out, and the phrasing, but i give some forgiveness for the genuine good intent.

  11. my middle name is spelled jhon, its isnt the most correct. but something i didnt like revealing cause i thought it was slightly embarrassing. and didnt help whenever anyone i knew found it would like tease me for it. well now a couple years later it doesnt even bother me as much but still dont mention it nor if asked tell them how it’s spelled

  12. As someone who works with children and sees a lot of crazy names, and their spelling, I’m with the friend on this one. I’ve spoken with a lot of parents that have regretted either spelling their kids name a certain way or giving their kid a certain name to make them feel “unique “. Now don’t get me wrong. Bullies are gonna bully no matter what the name is and there’s a chance she won’t be bullied for her name. But I can guarantee that people are going to mispronounce and misspell her name multiple times in her life, Lord knows I’ve already done the same to some poor innocent kids.

  13. My sons name is Loki. I worried that adults in particular might comment on it, but honestly, everyone seems to love it. Now, had i spelled it Loughkeigh or something wild like that, it might be a different story 😂

  14. For the first story….we have a generation of babies that have names like Broouickleighn(Brooklyn) or Looukwaiyshah(Loquasha) or Ghaihrryie(Gary). She's gonna be just fine.

  15. Completely disagree with the name spelling. We spell things a certain way to make reading and writing easier. Spellings are fluid but they are not arbitrary. Foreign names have "weird" spellings because they are translated, they make sense in their original language. The kid having a bunch of extra letters added for no phonetic reason is a sign of immaturity in the parents. They want their kid to be extra special. Why not give the kid an actual unique name with a spelling that makes sense? even something like Astaria would be better because it makes phonetic sense and is actually unique.

Definitely a take that was influenced by Arasha and Amanda having specific bad experiences and not understanding the full context of the story.

  16. I think "ruin the childs life" is a bit much, but the parents are treating their child like an accessory and not a person, they're trying SO HARD to be qUiRkY and different for no reason, Juliette is a lovely name, that spelling is just pretentious

  17. if it was like Juliyette I would be like "oh, that's weird but yeah, they're trying to be unique" and I'd personally judge it but would not say anything. but Ghiulieyette is going a bit too far. as a close friend, I'd say something. maybe not continue pressing it after seeing how confident they are in their choice, but definitely say something lol

  18. yikes on that first take. parents deciding to purposely change the spelling of an otherwise common or normal name purely because they want to be unique and quirky is not the same as people with names that have cultural or ethnic significance. the fact that comparison was even made is crazy to me.

  19. For the first story, Shayne is relating the fact his name is slightly different than the normal spelling, but imagine if it was spelled Chaiynn.

  20. There's a kid out there who's literally named "Drink Water" or even Lord Voldemort

And unconventional spellings of names will be a nightmare for the kid when they grow into an adult and spell her name to authorities or officials

  21. 10:10 The issue is that you guys are making this about cultural sensitivity when it's about randomly making up a completely new spelling for what is a culturally normal name. Normal not meaning conventional… normal in the clinical sense, as in, unremarkable. Your name being remarkable for a stupid spelling is a completely different conversation than your name being remarkable because it is uncommon in the place you live.
