Master Chinese “zh ch sh r” | Pronunciation Training
There are many students who’re learning Chinese struggling with how to pronounce these “zh ch sh r” consonants (Chinese initials).
when I was learning English, I was that person who’s struggling with the pronunciation as well.
After I went to college and studied linguistics, I figured out how amazing it is to know how these consonants and vowels works!
Knowing that I can consciously train my mouth to get used to different ways to pronounce different sounds really opened a door for me, so I hope that I can use simple way to share my linguistic knowledge (the IPA of these sounds, how to put your lips and tongue etc.), explain it to you and help you improve your pronunciation!

Wonderful! However, I still can't understand how properly to say "r" – it seems every time I try a resource, it's pronounced differently. Anything from seemingly being a vague buzzing sound, to a sound like the "-ge" at the end of English "garage", to a Mid-western English "r" just without rounded/puckered lips. I can't get it pinned down when every place I try to reference does it so differently. I guess the most I've heard is similar to a "J" in some French words, but it's still not quite right.

You are such a good teacher, it's insane how good you are!
Correct me if im wrong, but to pronounce r , you try to make your tounge to pronounce sh , but instead use the vocal cord. While doing that, dont try pronoucne r or sh and you got the r sound in chinese.
Omg why did noone explain before that you're changing it more with your tounge and air control ,not you lips, no wonder I sounded so off 🫠!!!!
