  1. The planet Venus actually has kind of a “sea level” – below a certain altitude the increased pressure makes the carbon dioxide atmosphere supercritical.
    The Russian Venera space probes descending to the surface just cut the parachute loose when reached the “sea level “ and sank slower through the supercritical CO2 to land softly on the surface.
