A huge credit to everyone involved. It was an awful ordeal, but the people of Newfoundland, Canada will never be forgotten. I’m genuinely sorry that the U.S. government seems to have such a short memory of how you helped thousands of Americans, only to be treated poorly in return. Your compassion will be remembered; political leaders who fail to honour it will fade into the history books for very different reasons

Thank you, thank you. I had never heard of Gander and all it's awesome people. I knew all of Canada helped and received thousands of planes on 9/11. But a small town helping so many people is wonderful. Please believe me when I say that millions of Americans do not hate Canada. We love your country and people. I am ready with my walker to go early voting in October to change this administration. Lots of love to all Canadians from a grandma in Texas. ❤️❤️🙏🙏

The Heritage minutes were always on when I was a kid, and I learned about many important events from those tv spots. We need to bring them back so younger Canadians can have the same experience. Gander on 9/11 was the epicenter of what it means to be Canadian and especially a Newfoundlander. Well done.

Airports across Canada landed planes from around the world since the entire American airspace was shut down, and the passengers had to be cared for. I’d guess Mexico took in a lot of people too. Gander is especially recognized because it’s a very small town and had to open, yes buildings and groceries and cars, but mainly hearts, to care for strangers who were in crisis, not knowing what had happened or how they’d get home.
