I stopped explaining myself to people when I realized explanation does not guarantee understanding.
Sometimes people do not misunderstand us because we explained badly. They misunderstand because they have already decided what to believe. I can control my words, but I cannot control what another mind does with them.
I still explain when I am wrong. I apologize when I hurt someone. But I no longer defend my entire existence. People can believe whatever they want. For me, freedom means accepting that you will be misunderstood.
Follow the message. Not the messenger. You are the Self-aware Reality on which the entire drama of world exists.

The issue is we don't know how we hurt others. This lack of knowledge is the problem in many relationship. The one who hurt don't know they are hurting and if you explain to them they don't accept it since they did not intended to hurt. This is the worst case since people withdraw after one or two attempt
