Many words used in "gen z slang" is from Black gen zers and black kids in general and the other kids of the generation just copy their black peers.

I’ve been saying this for years. Glad it’s being discussed on a wider scale. It’s AAVE not Gen Z Slang. It was ghetto when we used it, now it’s cool that everyone uses it.

This is nothing new. Even the dap and bear hug came from black culture.

I think Gen Z uses it a lot because we are more excepting of black people and we have more exposure to different cultures within the US. I love my black brothers, sisters, and neighbors and am grateful to be able to bond and share with them their culture while also understanding where it comes from.

I don’t care if anybody outside the black race use our slang. I only have a problem when it is used wrong. For example:
Woke
Black people meaning: staying aware of what is happening. In a sentence: Stay woke my brother.
White people term: Basically Left wing ideology.
“Unk”
Black people terms: a gentleman in his mid thirties and mid 40s that the younger generation love, care about, and love hanging around. A term of respect.
White people terms: A older gentleman who is old and uncool 😒
Stop changing the definition of a slang we created please, thank you.
