  1. I don't think Ted was schizophrenic. I've had several family members with schizophrenia and I don't see the same characteristics in Ted. I think Ted was a psychopath and an introvert and had difficulty interacting with others.

Usually with schizophrenia there is cognitive decline; people with this disease have difficulty with reasoning, planning and may speak or write incoherently. Ted had none of these symptoms. His manifesto is coherent, although rambling at times. His high cognitive test scores (136 on the WAIS R) and outstanding math research provide strong evidence against schizophrenia. His ability to evade the FBI for nearly 20 years is further evidence against schizophrenia. Someone who was thought disordered wouldn't be able to out-think the FBI.

  2. The part that stayed with me: after the longest manhunt in FBI history, it wasn't forensics that broke it — it was Linda Patrik reading the manifesto on vacation in Paris and recognizing Ted's writing, then David finding that 23-page essay at their mother's house. The image of the investigator comparing the two texts side by side and forgetting which one he'd already read says everything.

  3. Who’s here after watching the Netflix documentary? I’m not defending him, but if their version is true. I find it awfully funny that he is another killer on the list that had some involvement with the CIA first.

  4. He was a lunatic. He gets too much credit for speaking ill of technology and living “in nature”. Forgive me, if you are building bombs in your nature hut, then it doesn’t seem like the serenity of the outdoors is having a positive impact. The folk hero nonsense attributed to this dude is ridiculous. There are far better people to look up to.

  5. I think he was possessed after his journey in the hospital. Who nose what happened to him in the hospital. At this age rejecting the affection of his mother and the complete change in behaviour is a serious sign of the presence of evil especially for a child… Yes it is a very sad story. I think we should take more care of people with mental disorders. When they are diagnosed at a young age, they should be prayed upon and given more care. Love is stronger than evil but people just think '' oh I can't deal with this '' and they put them on medication that don't solve the problem… This guy acted as he best new and is sense of reality was seriously warped.

  6. I hear Eddie Vedder's fine song Society when I think of Ted. Many of us Luddites do not feel glee with more technology arriving at our door step unannounced and uninvited into our world demanding our loyalty and obedience. Kinda scared me when I read his "manifesto" printed in the paper and discovered I agreed with the mad bomber! Not his violent methods but his well thought out belief of what was really wrong in our modern society's love of all things tech.

  7. There's no way Ted was a paranoid schizophrenic. His writings are both logical and well thought out. Those suffering from schizophrenia write the same as the speak, that is to say their writings are a form of 'word salad' and will veer off on unrelated tangents. This can't be attributed to any of Ted's journals. It was the subject matter that they had problems with. Attempting to diagnose him in this way was convenient, attaching a label, thereby no 'normal' person would do the things he did. The thought that 7 'professionals' signed off on that garbage is both hilarious and terrifying.
