The Sky Isn’t Blue

Why is the sky blue? It’s not.

You might know that as sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere, it bumps into air molecules of different sizes…
If the light bumps into a particle that’s much smaller than its own wavelength, it scatters in another direction
And the shorter the wavelength, the more it’ll scatter!
This means the colors with the shortest wavelengths get scattered the most by the molecules in our atmosphere – bouncing around and giving it its color…

  1. Guys the sky isn't blue the sky is purple as we all know the sun is white and it's mix with the whole colors of the rainbow. And some animals can see it purple but some animals see it's blue.

  2. It's funny for us to watch humans debate on the color of the sky when we know colors are just illusions…
See you when we land on your little planet, losers !

  3. The sky is blue, the earth is flat. Both ignore information that contradicts it. Both in the way of how our brains affect how we see things, and how it applies to a limited scope. Day night, evening morning, the sky has no static colour. In fact the science behind the statement the sky is blue can be used can explain many other perspectives. Pink sky, purple sky, northern lights, nightsky, cloudy sky.. so its there in the science. The question is then whether the reverse is applicable? Does the science make seeing a blue sky inevitable. This becomes pertinent even more when considering other animals or instruments that do not apply the human visual range and conceptualisation. The word blue is not in the sky, nor the interaction of quanta with our eyes, nor the signals happening in our brains. Blueness is a manifestation of many correlates which allow us to project that blueness, that distant sky. Into our individual perceptions. That doesnt mean the sky is not real. It does mean we dont really know its nature. All our knowledge is relational. Not absolute. So the obvious statements the sky is blue, the floor is hard, the sweet smell of roses.. say as much about our brains and their similarity in biology, in physiology and in cultural upbringing as they do about what we try to point at.
