People forget that the entire global explosion happened because the ecosystem was open, organic, and fueled by diverse, indie, and mid-tier labels pushing boundaries worldwide.
Locking the industry down into a centralized, closed mega-festival controlled exclusively by HYBE, SM, YG, and JYP does the exact opposite as its structural gatekeeping.
Like we don't have enough of that already as is with the Grammy's. By crowding out independent creators and forcing fans into a corporate monopoly we lose here.
I get the orgional optimism but keep in mind this could bar artists from performing other shows in the region or country for months before and after the event.
For a group with massive, high-demand global stadium schedules, agreeing to festival terms can completely freeze their ability to schedule profitable solo tour stops in neighboring markets. Just something to consider here.

i mean he's right… after 4th gen i barely listen to kpop and ive been listening to this shit for like a decade at this point and im in my 20s… 5th gen groups i actually listen to is just babymon and lngshot… kpops been going downhill and even the groups i still favor i feel like their music has declined… it would be so fun to see collabs between groups from diff agencies but he's onto something with this… i feel like th is year all i see from fans are "i unstanned, i dont listen anymore, its gone downhill"

Good intention, flawed execution. The Festival Trademark shouldn't just be monopolized by JYP. These events should benefit groups from small/mid-sized agencies by giving them global exposure. The Big 4 (SM, YG, JYP, HYBE) already host their own massive label concerts anyway. Let the smaller groups shine!
JYP is looking out for K culture. He even demoted himself and stopped being a CEO to work closely with his KPOP artist. He even begged. What person admits to begging especially when thinking about the better good of the bigger picture. IDK. Filing trademark first isn't the problem. The problem is you doing it behind everyone back. The Trademark need to be file so some random guy doesn't get it before the project even started. Once start an agreement need to be drawn you handing the trademark to a holding company or entity that manage the festival will solve this problem. Ain't no way you ask other company to join while losing money themselves while you own and grow the trademark under your company name.hile

Every festival (eg Coachella, Lollapolooza, SXSW, Burning Man) became huge from bottom up. That is, the festivals were initially niche music/art/culture festivals that appealed to grassroot fans of that particular style of music or art or culture. Even the most well known korean festival, pentaport rock festival, became popular through word of mouth. No festival anywhere will become popular from top-down. Not going to happen. Top down will flop hard.
