The problem is India can't decide whose geopolitical side it wants to be on. Does it wants to fully immerse itself with BRICS, or does it still wants to head down the dead end of trying to appease the US. It can't have it both ways. Had China been in India's position, then India would have gone all in with BRICS, protect Iran, work to peel the Gulf states away from US orbit, and consolidate West Asia into India's region. On this matter, India might even find it has full support of China to kick the US out of the Middle East. But India can't make up its mind. Chabahar was supposed to be India's port. Iran can't wait forever for India to decide. For Iran, Russia and China are both better partners as they furnish Iran with markets, supply it with goods, provide it with workarounds to US sanctions. India's lack of vision is the reason what has prevented it from realising its geopolitical weight in the region. Had China wanted to, China could probably have convinced Iran to hand Chabahar to it instead, and make it a Chinese naval hub in exchange for Chinese security guarantees.

Iran is not trust worthy partner like Russia. India stood by in all time but Iran always stab in the back. India found and explored 0il wells but Iran refused to provide rights to buy oil in 2012. Once sanctions on Iran were temporary paused Iran immediately contacted China to participate in Chabhar. So India has to now look after it's interest. Time to time Iran comments on Kashmir including late Khemeni. Never hurt those friends who stands with you in bad times. Iran has to learn that. But we will never dump Russia on any cause. That reflects our sincere policy.
